just changed the oil and filter, appears I may have put about 1/4 ltr too
much oil in as the sight glass is full instead of half full

Do I need to drain some out or will it be ok ?

    ('06 R1)
    TIA

  2. I've always worked on having the sight glass just full to the top, but
I've no idea what the manual for the R1 says. Doubt if 250cc will make
    much difference.

Jut thrash the tits off it to burn some of it away.

more likely any surplus would blow into the airbox via the engine
breather - that's what happens on a boxer twin, at least.

Although, as you say, 250ml is not likely to matter. If Vass is worried
he could just unscrew the oil filter, pour the contents back into the
bottle which would get rid of most of the 250ml.

A boxer has some pretty big crankcase pumping effects though; an
inline four has hardly any, assuming that there isn't too much
    blow-by.

I reckon you're right about it no mattering, FWIW.

won't all the oil piss out if I do that?

  6. No. The oil filter chamber is pressure fed. It's not like removing a
    sump plug.

For what it's worth, I once drained off about a quarter of a litre too
much oil by unscrewing the drain plug _carefully_, until it allowed a
gentle drip-flow past the plug. It helped with warm oil in the
crankcase. If you should ttry this, it is of course useful to keep a
bicket large enough to catch all the oil, in case you should be unlucky
    with the threads.

If you let the bike stand without the the oil filler cap in place, then
start the bike, you'll be rewarded with at least 1/4 litre of oil being
automagically deleted from the sump and deposited on your left trouser leg.

Re-fit cap, and to quote that twat Tommy (whatever the **** his last name
    is) "Job done"
