  1. <Genuine boggle>

I'm really, really surprised that you didn't know that. Especially as
at least two of them are C&W singer/songwriters and (off hand) I can't
think of *any* Country and Western acts that are black.

I assumed sarcasm. Not knowing Roy Orbison was white, ffs.

  4. ITYM "King Crimson". Or possibly - Iron Butterfly[1].

    Phil.

[1] Makers of the song "In-a-gadda-da-vida". Probably the first ever
    Prog song released commercially.

  6. The first Genesis album (from Genesis to Revelation) was ruined by
Jonanthan King using the same technique in 1969. He took the momo
recordings done in the studio and shoved them to one side of the stereo
field and then filled the other side with a load of orchestral string
stuff. Which (in a lot of cases) overwhelmed the studio tracks when
    listened to in mono.

Just one of the many reasons for disliking him intensely.

  7. You and me both.

"I've just heard from yourselves and I'd like to.."

    NO NO NO NO NO!

It's just as well he was at the end of a phone rather than trying to
    sell me stuff in person.

  8. In most circumstances it means "the [rate of] change of". So delta-V is
"the rate of change of velocity".

What it means in business-drek I have no idea.

The thing is, he put that up years ago, but it's still relevant.

Yesterday I asked some wretch what would happen if he drove his car at 110%
all the time, like he was trying to do with his team.

What does seem, happily, to have disappeared, is usages such as "your good
lady wife", which alwas made me want to slap the perp hard across the face.

To be fair to Mr. King he didn't have much to work with.
I don't think you could make anything worth hearing from the first album.
On the other hand, Trespass and the following four albums were excellent.

    Not rate, just change.

Delta-V is the change in velocity. Plot that against time and you have
the rate of change of velocity.

It hasn't disappeared. I last heard someone refer to "my lady wife"
three years or so ago. Bloke was a consummate tit though.

That's really easy to kill off, much more politely...

"Lady-wife? You mean you have a man-wife too?"

  15. Wiring his nads to the mains with a discrimination filter on the audio
stream would be more fun. Especially if you trained it his voice *and*
    yours.

A violent response is more satisfying and more easily understood.

  17. Yeah - I wasn't sure about the rate bit - which is why I put it in
    [] brackets.

  19. Which (given the fact that he had decided the content of the album
    himself) is his own fault..
Some of the songs are OK - "When the Sour turns to Sweet" has been done
by another Prog band (Echolyn) and sounds really really good. I'd agree
that most of it was rubbish though.
As were most of the Genesis albums. I have to admit that the proportion
of the album content that I liked reduced considerably by the end of
the PC era but there were always at least several good tracks.

I also liked the one the MR and TB did with Wilson as a lead singer.
