Kylie's first 2 albums were written by other people, and it took her 5
albums before she started (co) writing the majority of songs on each
album. She then regressed, and her more recent albums feature tracks
mostly not written by Kylie. Given that she started in '88, I'd say
    she's "proving" your rule here.

I'm really slightly shocked that you know this.
Well yes, which is why I said "unlikely". How many other artists are
    there like Kylie?

well, I "knew" that her first few albums were written/produced by
SA&W, and suspected the rest, so looked it up.
exactly, which is why I didn't just say "you're wrong". Some of the ex-
boy band types (I'm thinking Justin Timberlake here) almost certainly
don't write the majority of their songs, but have still had ~10 year
    careers.

A quick trawl turns up a load of acts still having number 1s or top ten
hits a decade into their careers yet not writing their own material...

    Britney Spears
    Beyoncé Knowles
    Sugababes
    Justin Timberlake
    Westlife
    Ronan Keating

    The list goes on.

How about Elvis? He's been dead 30 years and yet his career continues.
Did he write any of his own songs? Did he ****. Compare and contrast:

Goldfrapp is good, Kaiser Chiefs ok, the others Killers, Arctic Monkeys
et al are derivative and seemed to be the standard bearers for the 30
something generation who need to be told what to like.

Unimaginative, new build home dwelling consumers - dullards in other
    words.

However, as I still consider The Fall as the standard by all whom are
judged my opinion on these matters is probably quite subjective.

The Killers and the Kaiser chiefs didn't have very far to decline in the
    first place.

I don't listen to much pop so I'm not really an appropriate case study.

It seems to me that previous generational tribes revolved around
one's own youthful musical/cultural concerns (mods, rockers, teds,
punks, ravers, etc). Any attempt to forge an identity based on where
your parents were in life would have resulted in mockery and social
death, everywhere outside the Bullingdon Club.

And here's the thing - would you want to see any of these people on
Jeremy Clarkson's sofa in the "Star in a Reasonably Priced Car"
    feature?

Britney would be fun in a shaven haired, kids loose in the back kinda'
way - I think Timberlake and Keating already have.

No doubt some Sugarbabe DNA will do the lap when Hamilton does his.

Redefining the parameters of an argument to avoid defeat is a lousy
    tactic, you know.

    Would Beyoncé be naked?

If you had surround sound you could hear the whoosh as the point just
    went straight over your head.
