    You seem to be.
    So you dont know then.
    Thats just being anal.

Carry on working for an employer then, some of us run our own buisnesses so
do actually earn well. Im sure you earn well enough to treat yourself the
odd second hand bandit 600 every 5 years.

  5. Pixie feet.

RCDs have a slight delay built in; it's enough to shrug off the
transients caused by plugging in a kettle or such, but not enough to
hinder the safeguarding job they do.
Fwiw, they do fail though; quite often in the closed position. It's
worth testing them at least twice a year.

  7. Keeping up with what's happening in an industry through that industry's
trade publications is not being anal. It's called common sense, good
    practice, or continual professional development.

You, sir, are an ignorant, ill-mannered, stupid, blinkered, incoherent,
    illiterate fuckwit.

  8. There is indeed a twat in this thread, but it ain't him. Were you
dropped on your head as a child?

    And if not, why not?

That reminds me, do you still need that big hole drilling in your wall
    for the dishwasher outlet ?

Just stack the jobs up, I'll be over when I get a spare min ;-)

    Cheers,

    Paul.

**** off ****. You're a wire wanker and as such should comment when
    asked to do so.

Only because it exposes your utter ignorance.
No, I don't know who wrote the wiring regulations but I do know that MK
are not on the 'board' of the IEE as you claimed.
    I think you'll find it's called being a professional.

  16. Well yes, the blowing of a lamp filament is enough to trip an RCD; I
presume the plasma generated momentarily diverting enough electrons
within the envelope to upset the balance.
I take your point about that.

I don't suppose a pure L-N short is going to cause the RCD any upset,
but most cable cutting incidents are thankfully a bit sloppy (and if
there's an earth conductor involved then obviously it'll trip) but I'd
expect most of these types of incident involve some leakage via the
    body.
As I said up there ^^^ somewhere, I've cut RCD-protected cables and got
away with it, but I've also cut RCD-unprotected cables and mildly shat
myself. You only need to do it once.

Fwiw, I know a bloke who was nicking roadsign sodium/mercury vapour
lamps for growing dope plants. He used to go out and simply cut the
cable, depending on the circuit protection to trip out. One night (for
he did it when the lamps were on) it didn't work too well. Gave him a
    bit of a fright.

The most amusing thing is that he thinks whatever he manages to rip
pensioners off for is something to boast about.

I wonder if he tarmacs drives and 'repairs' roofs as well?
