Is this a really big deal? I need to get the bloody thing off in order to fit the new bar risers which will enable my adjustable Jota Bars to be, well, adjustable. Trouble is, the existing risers bolt through from the top, whereas the new ones bolt on from underneath. Loosening the 2 allen headed screws which clamp the top tubes does not worry me, but undoing the big chromium plated domed nut does. I am guessing that if I get all these undone, reassembly is the reverse procedure, with the added fun of wielding the torque wrench. It's mostly for show that nut. Undo that and the ones on the tubes and pull it up. The fork will stay put as the nuts that hold the steerer are under the yoke.

Akkshirly there could be. The knuckles on my Jota Bars have developed a habit of coming loose no matter how hard I tighten them. Should I use threadlock or PTFE tape to stop this from happening? -- Dan L http://thebikeshed.spaces.live.com/ 1996 Kawasaki ZR1100 Zephyr BOTAFOT #140 (KotL 2005/6/7) X-FOT#000 DIAABTCOD #26 BOMB#18 (slow) OMF#11
Take the weight off the front end by using a paddock stand and a jack under the engine, to avoid the risk of twisting the bottom yoke. Or use a front paddock stand that goes under the bottom yoke.

No doubt you know more about this than me, but I was surprised at how tight Haynes recommends it should be tightened - 110Nm. This is not trivial for a scrawny soul like me.
Right you are then, both it is. Now, do I apply the threadlock first then wrap with ptfe or do it the other way round. -- Dan L http://thebikeshed.spaces.live.com/ 1996 Kawasaki ZR1100 Zephyr BOTAFOT #140 (KotL 2005/6/7) X-FOT#000 DIAABTCOD #26 BOMB#18 (slow) OMF#11
