The main private tracker torrent site that I use is having a free sign-up
weekend (normally invite only).

I was using a VPN. The site has some notoriously stupid security rules. That's
why I gave up on it.

 

it is run by stupid people: it isn't my primary site but I did have some
files sitting on my PC being seeded by utorrent. However, as I hadn't
logged into their website they sent a nag saying my account would be
deleted. After the third time this happened I let the account lapse.

 

ISP use one?

It means traffic from your browser is intercepted and redirected to a
cache at your ISP, transparent because your browser isn't configured
specifically to use a proxy.

They do it to save bandwidth via caching, and/or enforce filtering on
your web access.

Am I being insulted for posting the link advertising it to a public location
so any arsehole can get in? Is it something to do with the way revolutiontt
have done it? Or is it just open hostility to anyone posting torrent links
who isn't one of the chosen few?
