Oh no, I DO eat them if they are big enough. Grilled pike or perch is
fine with me, along with smoked eel.

If it is a private lake, then fair enough, the owner "owns" the fish so
is right to kick up when are taken.

I pay a rod licence fee and water rates that include upkeep of rivers,
fisheries, etc, so I don't see why the odd fish taken to eat is such a
    big deal.

I don't see what the fuss is about sometimes. Even "civilised" Swedish
anglers bop their pike on the head and take them home to eat, (and then
go out to shoot moose and reindeer for afters).

I think this might have been a Pike. Spotted at Pitsford reservoir last
weekend, and I managed to get a couple of pictures of its last moments.

I nearly had a good picture there, but the fucking bird kept facing the
wrong way and the fish kept thrashing about making it difficult to take
a sharp picture. Interesting though (I thought so anyway).

That certainly was a pike. I really hope for the bird's sake that it was
    dead! :^)

No, it was quite lively - and seemed reluctant to be eaten.

  6. I could picture the pike doing an "Alien" approx 2 mins later on the
    bird !

I had a sizeable pike (17lbs) strip the flesh from two fingers on my
right hand as a teenager, evil teeth and very strong jaws !!

The bird was probably more used to scoffing rainbows. Boney bonced
blighters are pike. Much less easily despatched with a priest than a
    trout.

My 7000s (3 off all 1978-80) all had levelwind when bought. I thought only
the 9000/10000 had the 2 gear system and no levelwind as they were dual
    boat/heavy beach reels.
My 6500C also had a levelwind.

Apparently only the early 80s 5000 had brass gear components. The later ones
had nylon but were pretty robust.
