Anyone been to Italy on their bike in early June? Wondering how hot it is
    likely to be (Northern regions)?
    TIA

Warm enough, I'd say. A bunch of us did a trip to the WSB round in
Monza in '03 and that was, if memory serves, in June.

It was fackin' 'ot. Hot enough for riding around in t-shirt, shorts and
    trainers.

I did try and ride in leathers but it became dangerously uncomfortable
very quickly when negotiating the twisty stuff around Lecco and Como.

The day we actually went to the race was about 28degC which is way too
warm for a pasty Brit in full motorcycle clobber.

    Your call.

    the bike anyway!)

Me and a mate rode to Mugello this year. Riding to the track early
morning - leather jacket and Draggin jeans plus bike trainers. Left
jackets chained to bikes and spent all day in t shirts - jeans still ok.
Evening riding, jackets bungeed on back until late then wore them as it
    cooled down.
Superb roads, superb locals and the local bill don't give a toss. Might
    return in 2007.

Well, Wik's 28'C is probably a bit low. I've been in Milan in late May and
we have nearly 37'C, not on the bike mind.

If you're on the move, the heat isn't really an issue. In towns and cities
it can be "challenging". But this shouldn't put you off biking down - you'll
    be fine.

tim emerged from their own little world to say

I was in Lake Garda & the Dolomites in 2003, last week of June.

It was mid 20s minimum in the day. Usually much higher lakeside. We wanted
to do a day trip to Venice. I'm glad we wimped out and took the air
conditioned coach tour. The journey across Soave & Venezia would have been
horrible in full bike gear. At Venice it was over 30C.

In the Alps/Dolomites it was perfect. On the journey home I was really glad
to start climbing the Petit St Bernard after a few hours on the sweltering
motorways. Climbing up to where there was still snow on the ground was
    bliss.

This year I travelled through Italy on my way home from Croatia in mid-
June. At sea level near Trieste it was very hot again. Temperature was
perfect as we climbed the Plocken Pass over the Corinthian Alps into
    Austria.

Curse my chipolata fingers. I meant to type *38*. As I recall it was
the hottest day we had during the whole trip.

As Clive says elsewhere, if you leave early then you miss the worst of
it. Leaving early to get to Mugello is a damned good idea, anyway; we
did the GP there in 2001 and the queues had to be seen to be believed.

As Champ said at the time "It's no surprise that 'fiasco' is an Italian
    word".

Weather-wise, it wasn't too hot that year. In fact, it absolutely
pissed down several times that day which was quite refreshing.
    :)

It's an utterly fabulous part of the world.

Do it, you won't regret it.

  10. Last time I went it pissed down at the circuit. It was a lovely warm day
    though.

By Ged, that brings back some happy memories. Thanks, Si.

It's been mooted that we do it again. I, for one, relish the prospect,
just so that I can misbehave properly this time.
    :)

  12. I'm organising a trip to South of France/Switzerland again this year.
Probably about 10 days around late June early July.

  14. I think it was Champs first DFV. Famous for the Wik Suze proposal and the
birth of Team UKRM. It was good.

    Wot he said.

I did the whole trip in a leather jacket and jeans and that was about right.
I took a light one-piece waterproof for the shit weather and we needed it.
We had a corker of a storm on the way back.

    Brilliant fun and fantastic scenery.

I thought that was you. Got to say your first album was excellent and so
much better than the second. The third was absolutely bloody awful.

Sounds cool, but I'm not sure if I can cram all the fun things in; TOG-
tours French trip, possibly the TT and the Mugello GP.

So much choice, so little time[1]
