Oh font, what does one recommend for touring? I have BT020s on the Sprint ATM, but frankly, although I liked them on the Speed Triple, they seem a bit twitchy on the Sprint, especially in the wet So, for mostly boring motorway with some suburban stuff, nice and long lasting, what do I go for? Loz suggested Avon Azaro III's (which I got) and they've been perect for the intended job. They've dropped them ow though and brought out the replacement which are supposed to be grippier AND longer lasting. The Azaro's have done over 7000 miles and they're still going strong on the Zed btw. Others don't rate them, but they ride pure sports bikes and they ride a bit quicker than me, so maybe they're not suited to a pure sprotbike. -- Beav VN 750 Zed 1000 OMF# 19
This is my typical ride and I got Pilot Road. Good grip, above average in the wet, and very long lasting.
I couldn't ride a pure sportsbike if my life depended on it, so no biggy there, thanks for the feedback -- Catman MIB#14 SKoGA#6 TEAR#4 BOTAFOF#38 Apostle#21 COSOC#3 Tyger, Tyger Burning Bright (Remove rust to reply) Alfa 116 Giulietta 3.0l (Really) Sprint 1.7 75 TS 156 TS S2 Suzuki Bandit 600 Triumph Sprint ST 1050: It's blue, see. www.cuore-sportivo.co.uk

My RF came with 020s fitted. I thought they were OK, having had them on my Bandit 12 before, by choice. Wettigrippers they weren't, however. When the time came I had Azaro IIIs fitted and after an initial bit of arseyness they were fine - once scrubbed in, like. Much finer in the wettigripper, lasting like forever. Bearing in mind the RF is a damn heavy old lump of pig iron, has 140bhp at the rear wheel and was used reasonably hard, I'd have expected the 1mm deep telltale groove (for the free replacement in case of an early puncture) to disappear in short order. In over 3000 miles it hasn't. There's still ~6mm of tread all across the rear and little sign of wear to the front. Turns in better than on 020s as well, which was an unexpected bonus, the RF being a bit strong in the understeery stakes. First name terms with a couple of the local grass verges strong, in fact. Bargain. I'd not hesitate to go the Avon route again, and will do on the B12 once the currently-fitted 020s are shagged.

It is documented, yes. It's as it came to me, with a Dynojet, K&N and a can on it. Dunno if there's anything else. I thought you'd clocked the dyno chart that came with the paperwork, at the time of purchase. It certainly has plenty of torque - from memory of the dyno print, it hits about 70lb/ft at 2500rpm and then stays flat across the sheet.
Is it the feel, the 'walking about' you don't like? I wouldn't go back to 020s again on the basis of wet grip alone - the (lack of) wear to the Avons is just a bonus. Different strokes for different bikes, I guess.
The "walkabout" phenomenon is very irritating, and riding around town exposes me to it more than normal, I guess. It's also squared off quicker then an 020, and wear rate seems greater overall. That said, the AV46 is a revelation after the AV50 I had on the back, and light years ahead of the AM42 I'm currently enduring on the back of the Wing. As it moves from tread to groove to tread, it almost feels like I'm riding on cobbles at low speed.

heh. Lest we forget, the first job I did on it was to replace the slipping clutch and install HD clutch springs which turned out to be excellent physio for the fucked wrist. Dynos, of course, are as effective a comparator as licking a finger and sticking it in the air. Handling was much better on the possibly rounder Avons, still understeered unless led by a shoulder, backed up with half a buttock down the inside. The looks could only be improved by scrapping the bodywork entire and starting again.
<shrugs> How about "Get a standard bike in, do a 'before' dyno run. Jet/can bike, have a coffee ... oops, I appear to have slipped near the calibration screw, never mind - perform 'after' test: Oh look, it's gained dollops of power, aren't we good, that'll be three hundred nicker Sonny". Ahem. It never hung around. Horrendously uncomfortable, always felt like it would spit me into Hertfordshire if I took the beady off it: but fast as **** (relatively speaking, at least). It'll be back on the road shortly. I may well drop the front a bit and see, 'cos taht's easy and raising the rear requires dogbones making (in a bizarre mixture, 5mm shorter per inch raise required). SFA to be done with 'em though. They work OK as crash bungs, mind.
I suspect the dyno was telling huge great porkies in this case. 125 at the crank would typically be 110 at the wheel, meaning the filter & can gave an extra 30hp (or 27%).
