    I certainly wouldn't mod a bike for riding to work.

    I'd accessorise it for that though :) (Not that there are many
    accessories for the ride to work compared to touring.)

    The only really modded bike I have, the Yam, was made that way as a
    hoonbike although it does traffic quite happily.

    I do a lot of riding to work. But if I make a bike non-stock it's
    usually for all the other kind of riding I do.

    And as for people who really do fabrication, like Phil, he does it for
    hooning purposes only. Except maybe for the 250 Goldstar roadbike
    which was done to prove he could.

    There ya go - as an IT geek I love the dash :)

    JL
    (but I'd spend the money on the suspension and engine mods myself - I'd
    never do that dash in a million years - not worth the effort to me)

    Funny. Riding to Wollombi and back (or any other long distance run
    in the 'country' bores me to tears. I quite enjoy my daily commute
    across the harbour bridge and back though.

    .....changes that make you afraid to leave it in a shopping
    centre carpark in daylight, as wank.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Why? Have you had some sort of incident involving "wank" and "shopping
    centre carpark" in your past that's caused this aversion Theo?
    I quite enjoy my commute (beats the bus, that's for sure!) - but we're
    talking about early-morning Canberra non-traffic... some days (especially
    this time of year, now the temperature is above zero in the mornings <grin>)
    it's just lovely, and I want to keep going. (The down side of course is that
    when I park the bike I know that the best bit of my day is over, and it's
    downhill all the way from there - until 4pm at least!)
    A true geek would build a digital display that used a row of LEDs to
    give binary output.
    I think you lose JL.:)
    I have to pick up a chair from a mate for repair and had to take the
    ute. Not much to look forward to after work.
    I don't work 9-5, more like 7-3:30. Not that traffic is a major
    problem on my route in 'peak' hour anyway. I could understand if you
    were trying to get out of Shitney Central at 5:00 pm.
    Who me?
    I bought a couple of lLED mini-torches yesterday. They look like a car
    cigarette lighter and plug into the socket for charging. Just leave it
    plugged in where the lighter used to be, and it stays charged and out
    of the way for those times you need a light to find the torch you keep
    under the seat. Instructions are "To turn on, grip end lightly with
    fingertips and pull". Sounds simple enough. :)
    I must admit the Brisbane traffic was a pain in the arse even at 6pm
    yesterday but I had a bleach-blond bourbon-smelling Bogan stumbling over me
    while she screamed at the poor girl opposite me on the 7:30pm train tonight
    so I'll be happily tackling the 6pm traffic on the XJ again tomorrow!!
    If I can just find a carpark that's open later than 6pm I can take the bike
    EVERY day instead of having to take the train on the evenings I work late!
