    All

Claire wants to get me a trackday for my birthday. Now I'd like to do it
around the date of my birthday but I currently have a problem with my
left elbow [1] and am not sure whether I should wait until it's healed
fully. At the moment the problem doesn't affect me riding day in day out
although I get the odd jolt if I have to do something unexpected.

Anyway say I booked a trackday and then had to cancel because I didn't
feel the arm was strong enough, would I be looking at a no refund
    situation or what?

Having a look on uktrackdays a couple of potential winners spring to
mind, Mallory on the 2nd or 7th or Donington on 8th or 14th. I've ridden
Mallory before so part of me is saying first real trackday on bike, go
for the circuit you 'know'. However another part is saying Donington is
a much better circuit and I'll enjoy it more. I'd appreciate thoughts!

One more thing, they specify noise limits on some of them. How do they
enforce them? And what's the likelyhood of the Micron can on my Gixer
(well not at the moment) exceeding it (Ben S perhaps you could comment?).

    Cheers

[1] I slipped on some cat shit [2] in the garden while cutting the grass
(DIABCOTD ?) :(. The initial thought was that I'd chipped a bone but
X-rays returned 'normal' so it's now looking like a scan to check for
    soft tissue damage.
    [2] I don't even own a cat!

If you cancel upto 14 days in advance you usually pay 20%. Just wait
until a few days before to see how you feel then book it. There are
usually spaces at this time of year. I turned up at Donington on
Saturday as 7th reserve and got on track no problem!
Mallory would be better as it's a far less physical circuit. But if
you're up to it Donington is much better. Can I come?)
On Saturday they were *very* strict. They checked most bikes before
going on track for road legal cans then black flagged *lots* more who
went under the sound meter at anything over 98. You certainly won't
    get away with your can.

If you did it wouldn't shit in your garden )

They don't allow race cans on race tracks?... What am I missing here?

    Sounds like a plan.
Okay so if the elbow is still giving me gip I'll do Mallory and
Donington next year otherwise Donington it is. By all means come along
if you want, I'll let you know what I decide and when I'm going. There's
likely to be a few lads riding up from Northampton as well.
Hmm best leave the OE one on then.
So I've been told. To be honest though it's not a price I'm willing to
pay, I'd rather have my arm lopped off :) I'm not a big fan of pets in
general anymore and I don't get on too well with moggies in particular.
Claire gets mad hay fever whenever we look after any of my parents
animals so probably not the best idea anyway.

The whining fuckers that live next to them. A mate knows the
officials [1] at Donington and they were telling him on Saturday that
it's one old bitch that complains constantly about *bike* days. The
dB of all bikes is measured and logged in a computer that the council
take away with them. One too many infringements and Donington Park
get fined, cunts the lot of them. Of course the jets flying a few
hundred feet overhead from East Midlands airport aren't a problem!

[1] His B-I-L ran over someones head on a trackday there a few months
ago so he got to know them quite well!

Most race tracks have a limited number of "noisy" days a year. How
many, and how seriously it's enforced, depends on how up themselves
    the tracks neighbours are.

Fair point. I guess I meant that having at least been around there
before it's one less thing to concentrate on.

Not quite. Almost all tracks have a restriction on start time,
usually 9am. Which is a real PITA when you have to push a race bike
to scrutineering fully kitted up :eek:/

If it's a noise limited day then I reckon it'll be illegal. You
should be able to find out from the organiser. If they say less than
or equal to 85 db[1] then you won't pass.

Days I've looked at are 98 and 105. I was wondering if you knew what the
Micron rated at! Guess I'll play safe and just leave it off. Something
to blame for being slow eh :)

I can assure you the Micron is more than 98.

  14. Ben came forth with the following in uk.rec.motorcycles
**** me - my model helicopter measures at 98 db and that can't be more than
    a micron, shirley!
