I've been invited on one. Is it worth it, bearing in mind that I really don't fancy hurtling around a track just for hurtling's sake. I also need a convincing argument that I will learn 'x' to present to SWMBO Thoughts? -- Catman MIB#14 SKoGA#6 TEAR#4 BOTAFOF#38 Apostle#21 COSOC#3 Tyger, Tyger Burning Bright (Remove rust to reply) Alfa 116 Giulietta 3.0l (Really) Sprint 1.7 75 TS 156 TS S2 Triumph Speed Triple: Black with extra black bits www.cuore-sportivo.co.uk

I do not, neither did I even (I think) come close to implying that I did 'require authorisation' If I *want* to go, I shall. I'd just rather have reasons for both her and me But it might be fun, IYSWIM Why? It'll be fun and she's worrying unnecessarily, it's not as if it's a race[1]. If you're gonna crash, I'd rather it be on a track. You'll learn heaps about what the bike can do, it'll give you more confidence on the road. The only reason not to go is if you just use the bike for commuting and aren't at all interested in going fast or having fun. [1] If she doesn't give in, just slap her really hard. Women respect that.
You don't think riding is fun? Imagine a world with no speed limits, no traffic, smooth tarmac and nothing to hit if you come off.
Hmmm, OK noted. Not sure *more* confidence is a good thing. Don't be put off by my whingeing in an earlier thread. They can be huge fun. Alternatively, if you want to just try it out under more controlled conditions some other time, may I suggest a race school such as the Ron Haslam one at Donington. It's a bit "production line" but you'll get the experience of riding on a track ad you'll get some instruction and feedback too. Oh, if it's Cadweel that you're considering, be advised that it's a pretty but technical and tricky circuit - I only did it once and just couldn't get my act together on it. Others may disagree, though.

No I think riding is fun. I think driving is fun. I think both riding and driving *fast* is fun. I'm just not sure that riding fast would be fun for it's own sake. -- Catman MIB#14 SKoGA#6 TEAR#4 BOTAFOF#38 Apostle#21 COSOC#3 Tyger, Tyger Burning Bright (Remove rust to reply) Alfa 116 Giulietta 3.0l (Really) Sprint 1.7 75 TS 156 TS S2 Triumph Speed Triple: Black with extra black bits www.cuore-sportivo.co.uk
1. Do you have a bike? 2. All that stuff Bear said? Then do it. I've only ever done track days in the car (no, not the Slothda diesel before anyone asks) and they are more fun than poking a blind-folded James Wolstenholne with a sharp stick. On a bike they must be at least that much fun plus a little. Hurtling is actually a lot of fun. YKIMS. Oh and if you want an argument for SWMBO, you are learning where the limits are in a totally safe environment so you know where they are so you don't approach them on the road and if for some reason you do, you can deal with them in an experienced and adult way rather than throwing yourself and your bike into a ditch. Probably.

The only thing I learnt from a rider on a faster bike is how to scare someone shitless by stuffing it up their inside then running wide onto the grass because you have out-braked yourself. I really do wish the wannabe racers would just go racing and stop trying to look impressive in the slow sessions on track days.
Catman says... Fine in a straight line and good for 186mph, but there's only bends at each end. I think they call them roundabouts.
