Not running when cold, then just burts into life after a mile or so.

Just tried it again from cold.

What the hell could that be?

    Sounds like.

Once running is it fine all the way? if intermittent look at the coil.

Repeat after me the following mantra:
    Compression, Ignition, Carburation.

A cylinder may be 'lazy' for any or all of the above reasons.
If it really *bursts* in to life suddenly that suggests ignition as the
most likely culprit to me. Sub-optimal spark not firing mixture until
    everything is properly warmed up.

Really, you should do a compression test to compare the pots. Then work
through the ignition components from plug back to CDI unit or what ever.
Being a twin, you can often swap things about to diagnose the problem.

Failing that it sounds like it could be a non-operating starter jet, as
suspected early on IIRC. You could even possibly swap the carbs to see
if that transfers the problem to the other pot.

I think it's summat to do with the carbs. The choke is iffy, i'll get it
    looked at.

It's fine once it gets going.

I'm shite with carbs & chokes etc.

Seems plausible. Have you tried warming it up longer before setting off?
I would have expected a bit of spluttering and farting from the dodgy
cylinder before finally chiming in rather than a sudden transition from
not running at all to firing properly.

One of the less endearing features of a Morini with Dellortos is the
impossibility of running on part 'choke'. The starter jet toggles on the
carbs are independent, and either simply on or off. In really cold
weather you may need both on to get it to fire at all, but you have to
put one off fairly quickly or it will be idling far too fast. Even so,
they don't truly run just on one pot until warm, just a hesitantly at
    low revs and small throttle.

All much easier to diagnose with a single ;-)

The odd thing is the thing runs ace when it jumps in, but does it spit & pop
at the back end, oh hell aye. Once the new exhaust pipe is on Thursday, i'm
    gonna get it looked at.

The choke lever wont stay in one place & hardly does anything if you do pull
    it.

I think the chokes are gummed up with some shit.

Could be that the tiny drilling from the starter jet circuit in to the
body is blocked. The pops and bangs may just be due to air leaking in to
the exhaust system, but if a new pipe with no leaks doesn't cure that it
may have gummed up idle jets. Does it tick over OK on both pots when
properly warm? Sir may need access to an ultrasonic cleaner ;-)

I checked the pipes & they don't blow, sounds like a carb man can do it.....
