Thought I'd ping all the experts on your side of the pond......

A Triumph 900 is roaming these parts and I'm intrigued.

    try this: http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/mcy/237809737.html

I'm intrigued but I could almost buy a new Sportster.....

I was always lusting after the "3" when I was a kid, a Triumph 650
twin, BSA 650, and a Sportster.

Nortons and Endfields were also lusted after but back then they only
existed in books and magazines, none on the roads around here.

Ques: Where and by whom are Triumphs now made? Are they still from
    the UK?

Ques: Back in the classic days, Enfield and BSA were both made by
firearms makers, correct? And Triumph was made by BSA? Others:
    Matchless, AJC, Norton, etc?

I have ridden a Bonneville 750 some years ago. I still Lust.

    TIA

    I forgot "Ariel".

Here's what I found concerning Triumph:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triumph_Motorcycles

The brand or "marque" is even older than Harley! And it's from
Coventry. (I was afraid that someone in the US might have tried to
restart the brand. It's a piece of living history.)

It was interesting to note that during the postwar period 70% of all
Triumphs made were shipped to the US. We're the better for it, it was
that competition that lead HD to develop the Sportster.

Look at what else I found, just a few miles from me.

These bikes could be mine, just come up with a second job to pay for
    them, eh?

What were the major differences between a Bonneville 650 and 750, I
    know a hundred CC's,
but maybe frame or other modifications?

Where have you been? They've been making 900cc triples since the new
    company started production in 1990.
They're made by Triumph, in Hinckley, UK.

I just got back into the sport after being away for a few decades.

I'm pleased to see that Triumph has been back for seventeen years, it
    shows some staying power.

Next ques: how much different is the new triple from the old? Did
they start out with a clean sheet of paper?

    Thanks,

    J

No - it had some oil stains on it.

FFS. Why don't you just google and browse around a bit? It'd be a lot
quicker than asking each question in turn on here.

But yes, they bought the rights to the name and the logo and not much
else, AFAIR, so all the bikes were fresh new designs.

I remember in about 1979 seeing a brand new Triumph dripping oil.
I think they discarded that as a design requirement for Hinckley.
They did keep the principle of putting a nice engine in a crap chassis.
