My 2004 model Daytona 955i was fine, and so have most Triumphs I've
seen. I don't know where people get the idea they are cheaply built
compared to Jap stuff; I found the finish to be far superior to any
Kawasaki, Suzuki or Yamaha, and on a par with older Hondas.

  2. An H2 engine in an KH500 chassis. Ye Gods. Actually, it seemed to handle
    that corner reasonably well.

  3. The Suzuki was great: a real child of the 1970s. The Yam, oddly, was
rather good to ride. I had one. Just not good to own.

Hmm. I wasn't too impressed with the finish on my Sprint ST, but then
there were a few other issues that grabbed my attention a little
more. Like it's ability to leak petrol out of every possible orifice in
    the tank...

I had the GT750 Kettle (M Model) terrific bike. Did over 100K miles on it!
and still sold it for a reasonable sum.
Never let me down, even when a mate dropped it on CIHAGM session and the
snapped chain took the gear indicator sender out.
The fucker was Thirsty!! tho', on a good spirited run I could get it down to
    around 17 to the gallon.

  16. presumably you pay something upon import into .be? Is it extortionate
    like .nl?

I think it did. And it was everything except the camchain, IIRC.
I've owned an early 750 that was a bit of a rat with a somewhat
chequered history, so it did have its little foibles, many, to be
fair, from mechanical fuckwittery. Oh, I forgot about the electrics.
And the constantly snapping cables. And the rust. And the shagged
bores. And the flapping primary chain. And what exactly was the point
of a bucket 'n' shim DOHC motor that redlined at 7500RPM? Err, anyway,
it was very pleasant to bimble around on at legal-ish speeds: it
sounded nice and was reasonably torquey and smooth. It was my first
big bike, so obviously my spectacless are a little rose-tinted. Those
are my spectacles over there, with the tail-light lenses in them.

A colleague had an 850: prettier and reliable as far as I recall. This
one was completely stock and had actually been looked after properly.
It was faster and had a stunning headlight, but was somehow a bit of a
let-down for me. I was expecting it to be massively different to ride
    and it wasn't.

Ah no, the tensioner was manual. Mine ate the 'W'-shaped top camchain
guide - there were a few bits of waffer-thin alloy lying in the
cylinder head when I opened it up.
    <sniff> Well, I liked it.

Mine was a little, err, odd. The fuel tank was crazed, so it looked
like it was covered in leatherette, and a previous owner had grafted
on an alloy tailpiece and a Guzzi Le Mans foam seat.

My 1973 GT750L had over 50K miles when I bought it and it went on to do
about 10K more in my hands with no problems

None, it was on stock bores/pistons.
    Just seen it, replied.

I must remember to take the phone off silent when I get home.
