  3. Oddly, most of the high-milers I've seen have been Suzukis. 500 twins,
    380 triples....

The ones that weren't Suzukis were usually MZs.

    Honestly.
I bought it with less than 2K on it, from Coburn and Hughes, Haringey N4, on
an L reg. Had it for about 5 years. It was my only mode of transport so it
got used for normal commuting and every weekend.
Regularly decoked about every 20K. Smoked like **** when wound up, which I
must admit for a fairly rare event. Used to misfire for a while when given
the beans as it use to choke up the plugs, but a good thrashing now and then
cleared it out for a while.
The oil injection delivery was turned up higher than the little alignment
mark, so this probably helped to foul up the plugs, but gave it a longer
    life?
By **** did I have some fun on that old Beast. It was my first "Jap" bike as
I had always been a "British" biker, and it replaced my Norton 850!
It used to eat rear tyres (Dunlop TT100's) and chains (No Snottoilers
    then!).

A perk of the job. If it was BMW or Harley, I'd be on to a military/
diplomatic discount too because I'm a civil servant in an
    international organisation.

    Big two-stroke triple?

I think we (darsers and I) saw one in Hinckley on Sunday. Cleanest bike
I've ever seen. Or, to put it another way, totally gay.

Saturday - it was on the way up.
exactly. As you said at the time, it sounded like 3 Vespas in a tumble-
    dryer.

  12. Can anyone wot knows prove/disprove this? I used to err on the side of
caution on setting up 2 stroke oil pumps until I heard from a fairly
reliable source that too much oil in the mix actually made the bike run
lean, and was "a bad thing".

My RD still smokes a bit, but in a good way. I hope.

What you say is broadly true, and on a really highly tuned stroker,
it's probaby not a good idea.

ShiteOldSuzukiStrokers always had by far the best oil injection
system: instead of just chucking it in through the inlet tract as the
others did, their bikes had delivery lines which fed the oil directly
to things like crankshaft bearings. I still think this is why their
strokers seemed to clock up remarkable mileages, though it may have
been that they were more robustly built and less highly tuned than the
    opposition.

There are 2 mechanisms at play, firstly the part that is oil is not petrol
so that means the mixture is leaner. Secondly petroil mix is thicker than
petrol so it goes through the carb jets less well, also making the mixture
lean. Systems with oil pumps rather than premix often inject the oil
after the carb to avoid the second problem so YMMV.

Crikey, I didn't know that. I'd be a bit paranoid of it all getting
gummed up after a period stood idle though.

If you ever want to be very paranoid do what some of the LC Club guys do
and use transparent tubes for the 2 stroke oil delivery - you can have
minutes of fun watching the many and varied air bubbles go through the
system meaning your precious motor is at times getting absolutely sod
    all lubrication.

I fitted a Vario screen (with a secondary "blade" type spoiler and it makes
100moh cruising a joy in comparison to the original screen. I managed a few
back-to-back 800 miles days on the Zed with no ill effects. Luggaged up to
    **** too.

I wouldn't consider riding one for any length of time without something
"extra" in the screen department. Like the Vario one I have on the Zed. For
such a small mod, the difference is amazing.
    Oh I know, I know :)

I may have to get a test ride sooner now.

I've mentioned this before, but there was a dude who used to drag race
a Kawasaki H2[1] in Superbike's Ultimate Streetbike series. Got into
    the 9s, I think. Certainly the 10s.

Anyway, he had a little lever that he used to shut off the two-stroke
oil feed altogether as he was waiting for the lights to stage, and he
did the quarter-mile with no lube. He reckoned there was enough oil
swilling around inside the engine to keep things from blowing up, and
the little bit of extra fuel richness meant he could run slightly
bigger jets and get a fraction more power. His was the fastest stroker
    there, I remember.

[1] No, you young whippersnappers, not a ZXR750.
