Anyone brought these your Thruxton ? I'm interested but have a few
    questions:

    1. Is the noise level legal in NSW ?
    2. Do they really add extra power (reported extra 7bhp) and is the sound
    better ?
    3. Would you buy them again ? ie. are they worth it ?

Here's a link to the Sydney sales site:

    thanks for any info !

The first sentence on the page you linked to should answer that
question. No, they don't add any more power.

Funny thing is mate the first sentence says: "we managed a gain of 6
Horsepower gain over the standard exhaust system"

    Thats why I asked.

Well if that's what you read then that must be the answer. What it
doesn't say is how that gain was managed, or how much it cost in dyno
time. They also don't say whether that was an instant gain. The
expression "managed a gain" tends to make me think it wasn't
instantaneous, and they had to spend some (or considerable) effort in
    retuning to achieve the gain.

Because they are selling a product, they fail to perform any controls.
Who knows if a bit of time on the dyno with the stock exhaust may
achieve a 10HP gain. There may be a whole bunch of things you can do to
your bike, at a much cheaper cost, to achieve greater HP gains, if
that's your thing, and it obviously is, because you're asking about it.

Also, it is inconsistent that they give dyno measurements for the HP
gain, but they then they use anecdotal advice from customer feedback to
brag about 'huge gains in throttle response and mid range torque'. Why
didn't they measure that on the dyno? Those claims sounds a bit dodgy.
Customers who have spent $1200 on an exhaust system are almost certain
to believe that they have made a wonderful investment which has achieved
great changes for the better. It's human nature to convince onceself
that they have made a good investment which has achieved results when
handing over great wads of cash for bling.

OTOH. Staintunes sound nice on most bikes.

    Hey Nev,

Yeah - I'm always a bit wary of claims on web sites and as you mention,
there are loads of vaguaries in this claim.

The bhp gains would be a bonus (but I'd brought a diff bike if I wanted
    killer hp)

Using this kit, it's the sound that matters most I guess but $1200 is a bit
    rich for me.

I appreciate your comments - thanks.

Aye, and then there is the added complication of carb or fi models.
Indeed, style is much more important.
The Thruxtons that I know of, both have Staintunes fitted. They look
great, and have a nice sound, not (IMHO) too loud.

If you are in Sydney area, hang about PITS long enough and you'll see
Old Jack on one or the other of his.

Spending $1200 to get less than 5kW extra power might be a huge
percentage increase in power on a Thruxton, but since that bike is hardly
about power in the first place, what's the point? If you want more power,
trade it in on a 'busa.

Since they don't have the Staintune removable restrictors they probably
won't sound so much better than the standard pipe either.

What they will do is look good. Just like the stock pipes do.
