TS250: let the rebuild begin!

Discussion in 'Classic Motorcycles' started by The Older Gentleman, Dec 4, 2009.

  1. Right, I've got the parts I wanted: the tacho and tail light.

Tachos for the 250ER, even used, are as rare as they come, but an NOS
one came up on eBay US and I got it for $30 plus p&p (which wasn't bad).

Tail lights are equally rare, but someone's selling pattern ones in the
    UK now, so another £20-odd.

Beav has done the paint, I've got lots of other bits, an indicator set,
swinging arm bushes, basically everything except a set of head races
(which are obtainable anywhere), so the next stage is to strip it down
to the frame, get that stoved, paint the swinging arm and handlebars,
and then build it up again.

Shouldn't take longer than... oh, a decade...

Trouble is, there's no room in the garage....

Time to buy an extra shed to store some of the shite.
I know a guy with a Hiab who could drop a 20 foot container into your
    garden.
Anything to avoid nigeing out some of the junk^Wprecious antiques.

  3. Oh, no worries, The Doctor has a lock-up around the corner. But it's for
    'furniture' and 'stuff'.

Whip out the head races[1] and take them to a specialist bearing supplier.
There will be a standard[2] OEM bearing, nobody has used non-standard
bearings since Noah was a lad.

[1] Yes I know, try a bigger hammer.
[2] I just love standards, there are so many to choose from.

  5. Um, I always just bung in taper rollers. Did that to my last TS250, too,
so I know they're available over the counter.

Furniture, that's like stuff that doesn't move when prodded, right?

I think the TS will qualify on that.

    Not really, read the thread.

It was a standard bearing with oversize. Which is actually a standard
product for many bearings. It even had a standard number with an
    oversize suffix.
    Think reground shafts.

A bit naughty fitting an oversize as original, but the replacement will
still be a standard catalogue item. Maybe not a stock item though.

Like I said, I just love standards, there are so many to choose from.

Ok Folks prace bets now. Will Tog's TS be up and on the road first or
will Timo's Motosport XL250 be ready. First with Tax and MOT on the
road and ready wins.Name the date and time the winner will be declared

I part sucked humbug, with pocket fluff, to the winner!

Knowing both well I would say TOG to win on the 2nd of April 2010.
