I think there's a fair chance that I'd be a total spastic with the
    analogue controls, too.

I've not tried it, but I'll take a look. The thing I like about NfSU (1
and 2) is that it completely satisfies Ben's "instant gratification"
requirement - you don't even really need to look at the manual - just
boot up, and drive like a crazy fucknugget.

Another totally mexico racing game is Burnout 3: Takedown

Hmm. I'm more of a Simpsons Road Rage man, myself

Burnout 3 kicks Simpson butt, completely - did you even read the
    review?

    <nods>

TOCA's a bit more "plot" driven having a "career path" and whatnot, but
there are cheats for it to unlock all the cars and whatnot -- the big-
rigs are a laugh -- but it's definitely a game rather than a simulator,
    IYKWIM.
Hmm, someone else (Pip?) said the same t'other night. I tried the PC
demo but found I didn't get on with the controls as they seemed to have
done something dumb with respect to being able to use analogue controls.
Might just have been me, mind.

    [bad form, yadda, yadda]
Of course, it helps if one's not a total fuckwit and acknowledge that it
was "Driver 3" not "Burnout 3" one was referring to... Doh!

    So, no, I haven't tried.

Despite both being career-oriented-driving games, Burnout 3 and Driv3r
    couldn't be more different.

In B3, part of the object is to cause crashes, or if you crash yourself, to
do it in an arty way, including optionally blowing your car up, to take out
    others.

I read the review you posted the link to and it does appeal...

Understanding the concept better, it made me think that the brains
behind it were big fans of GTA-VC; y'know, getting bored with the
missions, let's cause as much mayhem and carnage as possible...? I know
I did. I never completed GTA-VC which was a shame 'cause it's an
    excellent game.

I've deliberately not got GTA-SA 'cause I just /know/ how much time it
would suck up and how caomparitively little of it I have.
    :)
