Does Triumph TT600 deserve the poor rep on looks and engine? Anyone had a go on one? gp
I thought it had a good reputation for the best handling and brakes in its class, let down by fluffy injection in the mid range. This comment comes with added "wibble flip" as I've never ridden one.
gp wrote in Like many bikes that sit at the bottom of a peer group, it is not a bad bike. It's just that the others in the group are so much better. I bought a new CBR6 in 1999 just when the TT600 came out. Visually the TT is a complete rip off of its contemporary Jap bikes. To ride it was not far behind the top dogs of that time, the CBR & R6. Build quality was way behind Honda. However, Triumph priced the bike too high so it do not sell well. If it had undercut the Jap bikes by a grand then I might have considered buying one. If you ride one and like it then buy it. Just make sure you get it at a price well below a comparative CBR600.
Ta for the replies, Just that I seen a dealer offloading a new one for £4500 and was real tempted. gp
gp wrote in If that price is for a brand new, unregistered one with a 2 year warranty then it sounds a good price. If it was, as I suspect, pre-registered when the Daytona 600 came out then it is a secondhand bike even if it has zero miles. I thought the fuel injection snag had been sorted. I assume the bike is thought of as flawed and (the new ones) could possibly be a bit of a bargain. Interestingly (or maybe not) I spotted the only TT600 I have ever seen on the road, ever, only last week, and I must say It looked like some sort of clay model prototype - too many sharp corners - it was in bullet grey - but it did sound nice.
In Are you sure you're thinking about the right bike? http://www.bodsworld.com/images/tt600.jpg "Too many sharp corners," isn't usually a criticism levelled at a bike that looks like a blamanche. Where are these "sharp corners," of which you speak?
Slider says... Methinks he may be getting the TT600 and the Daytona mixed up. I don't think I've ever seen a Daytona in the wild and the only TT600 I've seen was in Hinckley.
I like the look of the Daytona 600 in photos - if it had a decent sized engine, I'd consider buying one in preference to another jap clitbike. Haven't seen one in the flesh, though. Nor do I have any spare cash. So it's all a bit academic, really.
There's a yellow one that lives near the office. I think they look quite cool, actually. Not as nice as the CBR600RR, but close
Looks like I'm not, it must have been a 2003/4 Daytona 600. Here: http://www.sportrider.com/bikes/2003/2003-tri-day6-5-zoom.jpg or even: http://www.hermys.com/triumph/daytona600/ <fx: wanders of mumbling: I hate getting things wrong, anyway it looked a bit pointy to me..
