Hey Sharks, Moike, Gary, Nev and you other "Belstaff Man" touring-types!

Can you please plot me a route from Tumut to Warburton staying mostly on
bitumen but off the Hume, Princes and Monaro Hwys?
I've got maps so just the town names is fine.
    Oh ... and Leon says I NEED 250km fuel-stops.
    Ta very muchly,

Tumut, Tumba(bloody)rumba (but not if pisshead is with you), Jingelic,
Granya, Talangatta, Tangambalanga/Keiwa, (turn right as you leave, then
left at the first big road, slow down for the 90 degree bend it gets
gravelly, left at the T intersection) Yakandandah, Beechworth, Tarawingee
(turn left as you enter - follow signs for Milawa gourmet region - cross
bridge, take a right fork, left at the T and right at the next.) Milawa,
Oxley, Whitfield, Tolmie, Mansfield, Yea, Yarra glen, Healesville, (turn
right when you get into Healesville, left at the first 'big' road after
you leave town) Launching Place, Yarra Junction, Warburton.

You heading to PI on the Friday?

I'd like an excuse to go via Healesville. There's a brewery there with a
    *really* nice bitter.

A shorter route has you going from Mansfield to Alexandra, Marysville
Reefton and Warburton, but I don't know if youd be wanting to do the
Reefton Spur in failing light at the end of a day that started in Tumut.

A compromise would be Mansfield - Alexandra - Healesville via the Black
Spur, but once again, late in the day it might not be a comfortable run.

Oh, and I know you can get premium at Tumbarumba, Talangatta, Yakandanda
(off the road on the right before you get to the main drag) Beechworth,
Mansfield, Yea, Healesville. Probably also at some of the others, but I
    wouldn't depend on it.

Ummm ... (stalls for time until he gets home and reads his maps)
Define "mostly on bitumen" (you great GS riding pansy), and let
us know how long you've got and how much fun you want to have.

That's pretty much the way I wanted to go thank you very much Moike.
That adds up to about 700km on my map so that'll be a goodly day's ride.

The plan at this stage is to stay with Leo on Thursday night and head for
PI on Friday morning so yeah; we'd love to get a Moike tour!
(Pisshead's making his own way down so we'll be setting of in the MORNING
    this time)
    Thanks again,
    Clem

Alternatively: Tallangatta, Happy Valley, Myrtleford, Dandongadale,
Whitfield. Bit of smooth dirt in the last bit (with amazing views of
    Mt. Buffalo).

The Bear recommends a tiny road running parallel and east of the Kiewa
Valley Highway, turn off just before Tangambalanga to Gundowring, and
if you're going to pick that up you might as well pop all the way down
to Mt. Beauty on your way to Myrtleford. I wasn't, you know, blown
away by it, but then I was on my way from Granya Gap to the Tolmie
Road, so there's a fair bit of competition.
Alternatively: Mansfield, Howqua, Woods Point, Cambarville, Reefton,
Warburton. That's about 100k of easy dirt, so you want to have some
time on your hands. About half way along is a couple of kilometers
of the least ridden asphalt twisties in Victoria: 50k of dirt on either
    side :).
I couldn't really give a toss about the racing this year, I haven't
been paying attention to be honest. But I could be persuaded to
wander along for a ride and a few beverages. Where's you all staying?

I went down the Gundowring Road a couple of years ago on the way to
Tarago, before I even knew it was suggested to be on of the top rides in
Victoria, and I can't really say I think much of his choice either.
From memory it was only about 1.5 lanes wide, lots of bends over the
crests of hills, not too many signposts, lots of mud and cow crap on the
road because the cattle living on one side of the road were milked on
the other side of the road. (oh yeah and at one end was the Tawonga Gap
or Happy Valley Road and the Granya gap & River Road at the other end).

Oh good, it wasn't just me. There you go. If a bloke on a R100GS
(or maybe it was the XLV) and a bloke on a ZX12R (well, probably a
CBR1100XX or whatever at the time) both thought it was lacklustre
(and covered in cow shit), it probably is.

Anyway, he doesn't list Powelltown - Hill End, Glenaladale - Dargo or
Buchan - Bete Bolong, so he's obviously demented.

Remember that only diesel and avgas is sold on the Gunbarrel Hwy, so
you'll need to carry a big jerrycan, unless your bike has a 900km range
    :)
