Twatty and my Beemer: Part the Fifth

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by The Older Gentleman, Jul 27, 2009.

  1. His insurers have indicated that they woud not be averse to just bunging
me a sum of money and letting me sort things out myself (or live with
them). So looks like they're not trying to fight the claim.

They've also asked for two estimates for paintwork repairs if I decide I
want the various little scratches and chips sorted. Beav? If I send you
the details, can you do one?

    Anyway, result, looks like.

Oh, and Plod has sent me the usual producer, so I've got to sort that.

    I'm impressed he was insured.
    <grits teeth>

Why can't they just look it up. Cost me £10 the other day for a
duplicate MOT cos I couldn't find the original - and got a producer.

I nearly had a similar incident the other day (first Friday of school
hols). M25 was chocka and stationary. About two cars in front of me not
one but two guys decide to leap out of a transit into my path. I think
they were just picking up something they had dropped out of the window.
They look at me like *I'm* the idiot as I go past. grrrr.

Whilst they should be able to see that TOG's bike is insured, they wouldn't
be able to see the names of the covered riders on the certificate.

  5. Shotgun cartridges use smokeless powder now. Usually single or two part
flaked nitro. You need black powder.

We have one? I thought ukrm was pretty much troll-proof. They've had
a try over the last 10 years or so, and they've all gone away bloodied
    and bruised.

I think that's right. Interestingly, they got the bike's reg number
incorrect on the producer. Lucky I spotted that.

And my K1100LT is listed on the DVLA database as a K100RT, for some
reason. That has caused some head-scratching at MoT times, but the
chassis and reg numbers are OK, so I suppose someone just hit the
    wrong keys, many moons ago.

Twatty's insco engineer came round this morning to assess the damage.
I've already spent £240 on mirror glass, pannier bracket and a spare
pair of panniers. The OE ones are serviceable, but bear some scars. No
    cracks, just scars.

Anyway, he'd been briefed that I'd accept an instant cash settlement
of £400, which is what I offered Twatty originally, and (in his own
words): "I'm going to recommend they bite your arm off. The paintwork
would cost more than that on its own, because it's a tricky colour to
match. And you've got no injuries, so I really can't see them turning
    that down."

Long story short, I can live with the scars touched in, because when
all's said and done, it's still a sixteen year-old hack. I come out
with a spare pair of panniers and £160 to the good. They save a
    fortune. Everyone's happy.

Except Twatty, of course, because if he (and especially his Essex
Rottweiler Dad) had seen sense and coughed up initially, it wouldn't
have got to the Plod/insurance stage. As it is, he's going to come out
with a stripe on his insurance record, which will bump up his
premiums, probably three points for careless driving, and potentially
a lot more if Plod gets arsey about the false phone number/address bit
and decides to do him for that as well.

Am I right in thinking that you can get a ban on six points if you've
passed your test less than two years ago?

    In short, what a TTTC.

Not a ban as such, they revoke the licence. Back to square one, as a
