Twin headlights, adding white LEDs in the middle?

Now this may sound [1] stupid, but it occurred to me that as my bike
illuminates both headlights on dipped and main beam, and the reason
they introduced that law about only one may be light up on dipped beam
is because I may look like a small car faaaar away to clueless fuckwits
[2], it might be a good idea to do something about it. [3]

So I thought of buying a couple of dozen ultra bright white LEDs and
putting them through the fairing between the headlights - the aim being
to make them look like one light.

On the V Strom I think I'd put them in a very shallow V shape under the
headlights, there's a small part of the fairing I could exclusively put
them in there without drilling holes in the main fairing.

Alternatively I could get a micro 12V accessory light (driving or fog
light, etc) and mount it under the fairing as there's heaps of room
from bottom of fairing to top of mudguard.

[1] And quite possibly, may be.
[2] They might be clueless and fuckwits, but it'll still hurt if they
pull out in front of me.
[3] Half of me is shouting I'm hyper-paranoid. It may be right.

    Verdigris scribbled:
Thats a doddle (so long as they haven't used a single filament bulb for
the side with no dip beam, or a dual filament bulb can be fitted easily)

I certainly wasn't intending to disable one of the dipped beams!
    Me? Style? You jest, Shirly!

    What law?

Both lights come on on dipped beam on my bike (model year 2005).

Of course, I can't turn them *off*, but there you go.

Hmm, They're not actually very far apart on the Strom.
I could be wrong but for the distances where this might matter you'd
need some VERY bright LEDS to make them look like the normal dip beams,
    let alone main.
There is a lot of room - but there is also a lot of suspension travel -
I'd be careful anything you fit doesn't foul at extreme fork positions
    - it probably won't, but I would make sure .
I've put Vision plus bulbs in mine. They're astonishing. I did have to
adjust the headlights lower though as I think I was blinding half of
the people coming the other way.

Haven't been flashed in ages though.

Main beam is like being at a football stadium :)

  8. They are good, aren't they? I've had them in the cage for a couple of
years, so they last well enough though probably not quite as long as
standard halogens. As I said in another post, the light output from them
is on a par with 100watters, so I'll be getting more VPs to kit out the
rest of the fleet and retire the 100watters.

Otoh... if 100watters were available in VP... Aharrr.

ITYF it's more to do with the manufacturers realising they can save
themselves 50p per bike if they only have one come on.
