Tyre reccomendations

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by Fraser Johnston, Jul 31, 2007.

  1. The Blackbird needs a new front and rear. I kinda figured it would. Anyone
got any recommendations. I will mainly be touring on it but I don't mind
getting something super sticky at first and replacing it in 5000ks.

  3. As second person to recommend them it looks like they might be the way to go.

  5. Looks like I might be going a set of Dunlop Performers. My mate who works at
the bike shop reckons something really sticky is the way to go while getting
used to a big bike. Also there is a recall currently on the pilot road 2s.
Apparently there has been some delaminating.

  6. Hi Fraser,
When i had my blackbird, i had Metzeller Sportec M1's front and rear and i
found them to be very confidence inspiring in all weather conditions. I had
a 180/55 on the rear and standard on the front. About a thousand times
better than battlax's, but i cant compare them to pirreli's since ive never
ridden on them. Somewhere around $500/pair fitted?

Michelin Pilot Power for the win.

Sticky AND they tend to last a fair while.

More touring oriented... Pilot Road 2.

Actually I just sent them a feedback on the website asking - otherwise
knowing my luck I won't get chance to call from work tomorrow either..

That sounds a lot like salesman talk to a naive buyer. I can't think of
any reason why a rider who was new to big bikes would need _more_ grip
than an experienced rider while coming to terms with the extra
    size/power/etc...
AFAIK the recall is only for tyres in North America. The 'rest of the
world' tyres must come off a different production line and are not affected.

You sure ?I didn't take a lot of notice but I thought the article in
AMCN on it said it included recall of Aussie delivery Michelins (or
has the subject changed and I wasn't following - we are still talking
about the delaminating Pilot Power's aren't we ?)

Ahh right you are. I must have read the report on a North American
webpage where of course the rest of the world would not have existed.
Just the 120/front tyres according to the recall. But anyhow, presuming
all the resellers complied with the recall last month, you'd have
nothing to worry about with any tyres you bought this month.

A guy at work had his recalled about the day after he got them bedded
in. So 'just North America' is misleading. The website refers to a
    specific batch and factory IIRC.
