Tyres, again. Anyone on here using Avons on a litrebike?

    Hi all.

Tyres due again and I'm looking at the latest offerings, as you do.
I've always liked Avons and now they have the new Storm's.

    http://www.fwr.co.uk/avont.htm

Anyone using them, or any other current Avon? Opinions? ESPECIALLY
cold tyre / damp road / roundabout interface feelings!

I used to always run AV45/46's on my Thunderace and they felt perfect
for me. Tried Dunlop 208's and hated them. Now I'm on what used to
be Loz's GSXR1000K1. Fantastic bike. At the moment I rarely break
over 120mph though[1], so... which tyres?

Currently got 014's and I know the reputation they have for wet grip
but even when warm the tyre doesn't 'feel' grippy to the touch. Avons
always feel better to me. But I'm odd.

Thanks and keep it the right way up.

[1] I'm a large built **** and the wind blast over and around that
tiny fairing tries to rip me off the bike at anything over 110. That
and a badly fitting touring helmet.

  2. Sorry, I could have told you my experiences with Avons (45/46) on an
    1100 and a 1200, but not a litre bike.

DO NOT put AV45/46's on my old Gixxer. The rear could not cope with the
130odd rear wheel BHP of my B12 once used enthusiastically. Used
moderately and stunting around they were fine though I admit. BT014 are
pretty unbeatable and last more than 5 miles.

Vipers I was thinking of. Online reviews seem to rate them. They
    rate 014's too though. Hmmmm.

I spun up the rear of the FJ12 on Avons on the way to the Black Horse
in the wet. Could have been a pants shitting moment, but I was used to
the Blackbird doing the same thing on its M90X

I think it'll be getting Bridgestones next if I ever wear these fuckers
    out.

Could Avons be the new Macadam widowmaker ? :)

  6. Odd, the rear is fine on mine, well, apart from not lasting as long as
it might if I was less ham fisted.

One thing I like is that if they do spin up, it's pretty predicatable.

You'll be getting a slap from the Avon supporters club. They're
perfectly adequate for anyone who wants a tyre to give long life and
sufficient grip for the occasional visit to illegal speeds.

Well, I haven't unintentionally spun the Blackbird up on either.

  10. Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique,
I have never made the rear spin up on the Pan.
