    seven-tenths on the old bus.

    And as you say, half worn has got to be better than totally shagged.

    I see the light, Brother.

    Paddock stand, get it up and the wheel off, slip scissor/trolley jack
    under, remove stand. Use stand on other bike.

    Simples.

    Seems to have done the trick, and I've now effectively got a tyre I
    reckon will be good for at least 1500 miles, for £7, ready to put on
    the ZRX.
