I need some for the MV, & they need to last at least 3k miles (so
things like the Power One/Qualifiers are probably out), & the front has
to be a 65 (which rules lots out).

    Choices seem to be:

Pilot Power - the 'old' single compound one (which is what I've got at
the moment, & like a lot)
Metzeler M3 (had M1s before, & also liked a lot apart from slow warm-up)
Diablo Corsa III (possible problem with the front's shoulders being too
    soft on these)

    What say the FOAK?

Dunno about the single-compound ones but I liked 2CTs.
    Dunno about that either.
Hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate Corsa 3s.

I'm really liking the Pilot Road 2s I've got at the moment. Only used
them around town so far, admittedly, but they grip like shit to a
blanket even near Vauxhall bus station and the turn-in on the Elephant &
Castle roundabout is streets ahead of the Corsa 3s they replaced.

If your requirements are that MV-specific, then this FOAK suggests you
ask a group of MV owners on the basis that I think you're about the only
    one here.

They're probably what I'll go for, short of any tales about current
ones being shite. I've spent ages getting the MV to work properly with
a 190 rear, & don't want to go through that again if a different make's
    profile screws it up again.
I remember you hated them, but they do seem to work on MVs. A couple of
people on MV groups have posted photos showing them completely trashed
on the softer compound bits though, hence my reservations.

Personally I'd stay the **** away from the Corsa III's. I lobbed a pair on
the bin after less than 100 miles use, where I thought every mile was my
    last.

I did, & trawled the fora, but the 750cc owners seem to go for DOT race
tyres that last about 1500 miles, & the 1000cc owners either do the
same, or use 70 series fronts (which don't rub on the 1000). So lots of
Power Ones, Racetecs, 2CTs, Supercorsa Pros etc - none of which are any
    use to me.

    Sometimes it's hard being different...

I know your bike isn't particularly powerful but I think you're having a
giggle if you think anything "sporty" is going to last you 3000 miles.

    My last few sets:

    D220 (SV650), 4000 miles
    Contiforce (RGV250), 1000 miles
    BT016 (GSXR750), 2000 miles
    Pilot Power 2CT (GSXR1000), 1500 miles
Diablo Corsa III (GSXR1000), 1500 long and hateful miles

Hence why I've opted for Pilot Road 2s for the Alps trip.

I was hoping the Powers on there would last, but having had a closer
    look, not a chance.
You should go for Metz Karoos for the full taunting effect.
So you daren't even mention its name anymore huh? Very wise imo.

Total mileage so far: just over 12k.
No of sets used so far: 4 (& I think the current set have a good 1k
left in them, despite having done 10 days blasting around Europe & a
    trackday).

The tyres do last well on it, partly I suspect because I do very little
in the way of straight roads, so the middle has less use than someone
who uses their bike for commuting for example. I also don't rag it in a
straight line, & rarely venture into licence-losing territory on
    straight bits.

I've learned not to make bets where the outcome is entirely in the hands
    of the other party.

Try again when I'm drunk in a tent at 5 in the morning. Cost me a
    hundred quid last time.

Fucking fucksticks. Michelin have stopped doing the 190/55 rear, & the
Sportecs are on backorder & not expected this month.

Pretty much all tyres with a 190/55 section seem to be rather trackday
    biased.

    Dunlop Qualifiers?

So stick with them, although I think the newer dual or multi compound
stuff is amazing, especially in the wet.
I had the Diablo Corsa III on the CBR600RR and they were fine both wet
and dry. Made it to the Elefantentreffen and back and survived the
hammering they got on the French run. Started to go off near the end,
but that was over 4000 miles. Although I guess the Senna is throwing
out substantially more power and torque.
Shame they don't do the Angel ST in a 65, I've just put a pair on my
ST4s and I have to say, having hammered them in the dry and the wet I've
been pretty impressed. The PR blurb is entertaining too.

No 120/65, & not sure they'd last the distance anyway.

    Dunlop Qualifier

    120/65-ZR17 - £69.00
    190/55-ZR17 - £114.00

I suspect you're looking at the RRs.

Ah, no I was looking on Dunlop's website, which only lists one
Qualifier. The tread looks like the RR though. They're recommended
fitment is 120/60 for some bizarre reason.
