Tyres

    Actually, I thought about that (having seen yours with the 180 fitted).

    Mind, the 190 was the same price as a 180 at the place I got it done, so
    it wouldn't have been any cheaper. This is the first time I've ridden
    the bike with new tyres, so I might try a 180 next time, now I've got a
    baseline to compare it to.

    Bridgestone's website only seems to recommend 190s for the 9R, mind -
    not that that would stop me.

    They seem to be the more track-oriented ones.
    BT020s are still in production. BT014s are the replacement for the BT010
    - seem good so far, but haven't had a chance to give them a good thrashing.

    I was out yesterday, but accompanying a Pegaso, so couldn't really go
    tearing off into the distance.
    There's a lot to be said for that.

    Several UKRM's are using 014's. They come as OEM on Gixxer thou K5's.
    Damn fine tyre and deffo not "touring".
    For the record they are not dual compound. The molecules are oriented
    differently in the centre of the tread to increase wear life,
    presumable through some damn clever cooling trickery during
    manufacture. It seems to work...some.

    Some, indeed. My rear's almost treadless in the centre after about
    3000 miles. So not bad, I guess - certainly no worse than the OEM
    012/011. ISTR I used to get up to 6000 out of a rear 020/BT57 on the
    Sprint ST.

    Far from it. They are standard fitment to the Gixer thou K5. Take
    minimal time to warm up and stick better than the 010.

    These are cheaper than I can get them for trade from my huge list of
    contacts. When it comes to trying to save a few bob on something that
    wears as fast as tyres, then I will always take the cheaper option.

    the rear end in corners. I wouldn't have known it had a 180 fitted if I
    hadn't been told prior to riding it.

    I love my 014s. They are the only tyres I've ever had that have worn
    evenly across the whole tread, right to the edges and not squared off.
    They grip like shit to a blanket in wet or dry conditions and still give
    approx 3K miles of use.

    The Madasfrog12 will be getting them pronto. The Azaro's have huge
    amounts of tread but don't seem to be in the same class for grip. That
    said they are not rubbish.

    How do you do that then? Mine is definitely not uniformly worn,
    although I suppose, thinking about it, it's much less square than
    previous tyres have been.
    I did manage to spin up the rear on a straight road recently - doing
    about a ton uphill and just opening the throttle to maintain speed and
    finding the opposit hepenned. Not a problem as such, but quite
    surprising. It was _very_ wet, mind.

    This Bandit spins up in 3rd every time it hits the main power surge,
    when the road is streaming wet. Don't trade down to Azaros! Seems ok
    on dry roads though.

    I don't know why they do that, but they do. I do find myself pushing
    both ends of this bike harder through fast corners than any bike I have
    ever ridden before. It loves being cranked right over at stupidly
    illegal speeds and doesn't budge an inch. I am cornering far faster and
    harder than ever now I have confidence in suspension, tyres and myself.

    I bought the gixer not only because it was at the right money, but
    because I needed a bike that would make me use all of my brain all the
    time I was aboard it, and hopefully help in the recovery from my TIA. I
    had the 9R before and I found that surprisingly easy to ride hard
    without thinking about it, but I'd become complacent. The gixer has done
    all I wanted it to do and more.

    I had another look this morning and realise that you're right. They've
    now done 3300 miles and the centre tread is nearly gone (<1mm) but, as
    you say, there's quite a lot of wear towards the edges too and the
    profile is nothing like as square as I've got use to on previous BTnn
    tyres.
