I know I asked a while back what tyres to put on my zx9r but.
I have been strapped for cash as its the start of the race season so I left
    the old ones on.
I went out for a blast today and the bike felt really bad so I called in to
    my local fitter.
I asked him what he recommends as I want something with a bit more lifespan
than the 207rr's that are on there.
He said Pirelli Diablo, the standard ones not the corsa or the strada.
I'm only gonna do one track day this year and a tour of France in the
summer. I'm slow as **** on the road so I don't need super sticky stuff.
He's going to fit them on Saturday so I'll write the first impressions if
    the FOAK doesn't respond.

Elly has them on her 9R and she really rates them.

I'm waiting to see a tyre that somebody doesn't rate!!

So far I've seen Avons, Pirellis and Bridgestones - all rated highly.

Doesn't help really, as I'm also due for tyres on the FJ soon (like a
couple of weeks). I usually go for BT45s, but always open to alternative
suggestions. As I get through a pair just about every 7-8 months I need
lifespan rather than outright handling - I've done 18,000 miles on the
    FJ in two years now.

Anything likely to be better than the BTs? I get about 5-6k out the back
tyre, although this last pair has seen the front wear quite quickly too
    - probably due to the sticking O/S caliper I had during the winter.

And no-one mentions Dunlops. I can understand why, the 9R felt like I
was riding on marbles with the D207s it had fitted. I liked the D207RRs
though, but the 014s are better all round.

AFAIK the BT45 is not a radial tyre and not suited to a 9R? The early
(at least) FJ wasn't designed for radials either although it may have
come with the 1st Pirelli attempt semi radial which has a higher profile
which was a shite tyre anyway.

I had a set on the MV, no real complaints, but I won't be getting them
again since trying Mich Pilot Roads. The new Pilot dual compound will
    be next on my list.

And they are about the most expensive tyre going. Still could be a moot
point soon, didn't they go into receivership this week?

Out of interest, is there any problem fitting a radial if the dimensions
    are within spec.?

I know my tyre pressure chart lists two pressures, one for crossply and
    one for radial.

I put a pair of Conti sport attacks on my Zed and they're magic when they've
warmed up, but absolutely lethal when they're cold. The difference in 10
minutes is staggering and it's made me decide to keep the **** away from the
Conti's next winter. I'm looking forward to summer on 'em, but come winter,
I'm not looking forward to more gripless back end slides and wheelspins, so
I'm definitely going back to 014's in the late summer/autumn.

I think some septic or other rode on Conti's in autumn and renamed the
    season to suit.

Like I said, the D207RRs I had on the Thunderace absolutely rocked, they
never gave me a second's worry in the time I had them on that bike. I
hated the standard D207s the 9R had though. They put me off ever buying
    Dunlops again.

Dunlop 207rr's are shite when they're fucked.

  14. I have them on the 9R and they seem ok to me but that could be that i
don't put them under enough stress to get them out of shape.

Bear will be glad to know it'll likely have a new rear RR in time for
    the TT.

    I'm using Avon Azaro ST's (AV45/46 I think) on my FJ12 - miles more
miles. I got through a rear BT45 in 2,500 miles, up to 5000 miles on
the current azaro and loads of tread left. Grippy enough for a barge
    like the FJ too.

Mind you, I've just bought two pairs of Azaro AV35/6's for £160 - the
flatmate's not pleased with them in the kitchen though (1).

[1] She's even less pleased with the engine blocking the back door.
