Last year I stuck a pair of Maxxis road supermoto tyres on the bike, apparently the same intermediate pattern as their race tyres but with a road compound, and they were excellent. This year I thought I'd try the race ones as there's not much difference in price and they get changed in summer anyway, so I went for the medium compound. Today was the first miserable day I've had a chance to get out for a proper blat after having them fitted and they rock. Even on the wet crap covered B roads round here there was just bags of grip and any sliding was minimal and predictable, although I imagine it's a fine line between that and sliding off :) The only down side to the trip was that my waterproof jacket appears not to be anymore.
