I had loads of different tyres on the 9R, and they were all fine. If they got slippy-slidey, it was usually because of stuff in or on the road; drain covers, overbanding & the like. I usually went for the "black, round & cheap-ish" options when I needed to buy tyres as I'm not sure I'd ever notice the difference anyway.
