Not alone, although it seems that many people don't share your view.
Angling for eating I can understand, but if you'redoing that then use
the best method available, which wouldn't normally be standing waist
deep in icy water casting a couple of feathers above the water
sufrace. Haven't these people ever heard of nets?
    For eating? Or for sport?
Nah, they're much too big even for a .50 calibre slug.

And they've just cancelled their headline slot at Glastonbury.

The quality of the headline acts as a whole can only go up. Fingers
crossed Matt Bellamy falls down a well or something.

Why would one shoot a deer if not for eating ;o)
I was referring to the 12 bore version

I'm somewhere in the middle here (surprise surprise). I think fishing
or hunting for the pot is fine, being an omnivore, but I can quite
understand the attraction of fly-fishing and stalking, which become a
sport for the predator but also arguably give a bit of a chance to the
    prey.

    Naah, you'd never fit a cannonball in a 12-bore.

**** Glasto; we're off to Lovebox this year, though probably only the
Sunday, to see Peaches and Grace Jones.

In nature the predator has an important purpose, to improve the breed.
Stalking game can improve the herd by removing the slow and stupid but
I fail to understand how fishing can improve anything other than the
    fishermans meal.

It is a surprise, to me at least. I guess that must mean you're an
    angler yourself.
Arguably. In fact, of course, a fish has a _much_ better chance if
no-one's trying to pull it out of the water at all, and I really don't
think the deer is going to appreciate the fact that he's only going to
die if the hunter's quite good at it.

No, actually. I find it dull. I have stalked deer, however (well, buck
    to be precise).
I suspect only lack of sentience prevents him.

I meant "in the middle" in terms of disliking the idea of bloodsports
generally on the one hand, but feeling some sympathy with the idea of
making killing for the pot enjoyable rather than distasteful on the
    other.

Sir was of course referring to 437 grains @ 1600fps of Meaty (OM) Goodness

    www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3mkF0V2LHM&feature=related

For general interest a 9mil Glock might manage 1150 fps using a 147 grain
    slug.

I'm sure some bored soul will calculate the appropriate energies for us ;o)

    BTDT.

I foolishly accepted the offer of a chance to go fishing with a bunch
of locals when I was working in Kazakstan and their idea of fishing
was to sling a grenade into the river then get in there and grab the
fish before slinging them on a barbie and washing them down with
    vodka.

I think they were showing off a bit because apparently the normal
method of catching fish was to either net them or to wade in and spear
    them with home made tridents.
