Just coming to the end of the 'girl' trilogy & i have really enjoyed them.

I have them on audiobook for long journeys.

    Anyone recommend something similar?

Crime fiction really isn't my cup of char at all, but I thought that the
trilogy was excellent. The genre is more SWMBO's thing, and she has
been thoroughly enjoying the novels of Jo Nesbo. They are Norwegian,
rather than Swedish, so you can read them ahead of the Nordkappers'
return. The detective is called Harry Hole, which I'm sure isn't as
    funny in Norwegian as English!

I'm doing Bryson 'A Short History Of Nearly Everything' for the 2nd time
on audio. Very good indeed. Offsite archives could be arranged for
anyone willing to sell a bit of archive space...

Ditto, not brilliant but entertaining. Got them as Xmas presents from
    the eldest.
I've just acquired the 3 films.
Not something I would have bought personally so not really my genre/
Tried your local library - well before it gets closed.

Haven't read any of the Girl books, but Elmore Leonard puts out good
    stuff.

hmm. I've read them all, and thought they were "OK".

I'm not going to recommend anything else up in the snow, but if you
want to read some proper ****-off crime fiction, try anything by Peter
Temple "The Broken Shore" is his big "hit", and I'm not going to look
up the chronological order of publication for you, but every one's a
    corker

Bit late to this thread and I'm yet to work out how to look back on
Thunderbird at the stuff that's already been written to see if what I'm
saying has already been posted, but...

My cousin, the Crime Writers' Association Debut Dagger Award nominated
authoress, recommended the Jo Nesbo books for those that enjoyed the
girl with an enthusiasm for tasering blokes in the bollocks trilogy

I read the first (Swedish thing), and thought it was bloody dismal. I'm
not sure that I'm even in the right genre, and ears receptive to that
stuff will probably be deaf to anything more sophisticated anyway, but
all the same I'm going to recommend James Elroy, starting with LA
    Confidential.

    Darsy... sigsep.

More crime... Robert Wilson's Xavier Falcon collection, highly recommended.
Peter James' Roy Grace series set in Brighton, recommended.
Think I've had my fill of crime for the moment, I've just finished
    another Jack Reacher number.

Good to know, as The Snowman is on my to-read pile.
