Yes, the ridiculous hyperbole being deployed in opposition to this
proposal has me tending more and more towards thinking that it's
essentially OK.

I know that sometime ago (a pretty long time) mortgage payment assistance
only lasted for about 12 months. After that, it just disappeared. According
to a bloke I used to know that is, so I could be completely wrong.

If you had an interest only mortgage with an endowment designed to pay the
capital sum at the end, the mortgage company wouldn't have an option, so I'm
still thinking the "help" would soon come to an end from the council.

 

I don't see it as a millstone and I'd much rather be in the position of
owning than hoping someone won't come round and force me out of it coz I
can't afford the rent/mortgage/ for whatever reason.

and even after losing 20% of their combined earnings comfortably buy a
3 bedroom detached place.

 

My only direct experience of long term claiming is the SO, but as she's
registered disabled that may be the difference.

It's interesting to read that the average age of an unassisted first
time buyer is 37. I'll have a look later and see if I can find any
figures to tell me what it was 10 or 20 years ago.
