Don't worry, in a year or so the Director's Final Cut Ultimate
Collector's Edition (parts one, two and three) will come out on BluRay
and it *will* be five hours long.

Oh I agree it was awful, but then I thought the "book" was awful as well. I
still enjoyed it though. When I was an archaeologist briefly back in the 90s
the people I shared a house with used to try to outdo each other in renting
the worst videos out. I managed to win that one by getting out Prison Ship
Starslammer and another sword and sorcery film called Deathstalker.

    Rusted and ropy.
    Dog-eared old copy.
    Vintage and classic,
    or just plain Jurassic:
    all words to describe me.

    What? Deathstalker rocks!

    "What's your name?"
    "Deathstalker"
"Um, is that your first name or your last name?"

    Quality film-making.

so, we're back to Bear's earlier statement in this thread.

on a film-club note: I'm being dragged to see "Slumdog Millionaire"
later this morning. I'm not looking forward to it.

Oh, I probably will once it starts, it's just the concept that doesn't
    appeal.

    heh - it's actually a pretty good piss-take.

Pity no-one's made a film of the book of the same name (nothing to do
with the film you're talking about, in it the Deathstalker character
does have a first name: "Owen")

I was just the same - the film had less word-of-mouth when I went to
see it, but I was still won over within 10 minutes.

Deathstalker an outstandingly bad film. So bad it was good. You had to
love those little looks to camera with a Roger Moore style raised eyebrow.

    It really is very good.

The only film I've watched recently that I genuinely expected to be shit
but turned out to be quite good was the Zohan. Adam Sandler in 'funny'
    shocker.

    <looks at DVD shelf>

I might give Ghoulies IV a shot later. One of the many appalling films
I've bought but haven't worked up the courage to watch.
