Look, even the *trailer* was shit. So did I, back when it was cutting edge. Andy Wegg wrote Depends on the film dunnit. If it is sci-fi for example it is almost compulsory to have wizard sfx. Some soppy burds weepy only needs a bit of long notes on violins and soft focus and the job 's a good'n. Oh I dunno, cast you eye over the responders to the thread and ask yourself the question again I reckon.

I knew you'd pop up with an impassioned defence. It's a sack of shite. With some great (for its day) stop-frame animation thrown in. Your go.[/QUOTE] It's an epic tale, a classic and, as I'm sure box-office figures will show, a story that is still captivating today. The fact that, as others have said, it is still remembered 70+ years on, and that people can recall scenes and even lines from it shows that it has something. The animation is almost incidental to what was, and remains, a great piece of storytelling. I haven't seen the new one yet, but the original is above reproach. -- AndrewR, D.Bot (Celeritas) Kawasaki ZX-6R J1, Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo BOTAFOT#2,ITJWTFO#6,UKRMRM#1/13a,MCT#1,DFV#2,SKoGA#0 (and KotL) BotToS#5,SBS#25,IbW#34, DS#5, COSOC# Suspended, KotTFSTR# The speccy Geordie twat.

It really does depend on how each person defines "classic" and I think a lot of posts in the thread show that. FWIW, dictionary.com has "having lasting significance or worth; enduring." which KK is definitely in the first bit (IMO), not so sure about the next. filmsite.org says "classic films are often distinguished or unique works of cinema that have transcended time and trends, with indefinable quality. Classic films are often universal favorites that hold up after repeated rescreenings." Again, this probably *mostly* applies to KK, regardless of anyone's personal rating of "shiteness". Anyway, here's a list of their "classic" films[1][2]. http://www.filmsite.org/classicsfilms.html Discuss. [1] Including King Kong [2] As will be the case for most, some I agree with, some not. Some of them I've never heard of, let alone seen.
