    <Tries to resist but fails>

That was a *sci-fi* movie!? You sure you went to the same film I did?
I was an action/adventure/comedy lacking in action, adventure and comedy.

Ok, set in the year blah, where matey goes back in time to tell himself
not to mention himslf forward in time because back in time he promised
he wouldn't do exactly that, but due to aliens he agrees with himself
that the whole not telling the himself forward in time was bollix and
the script writers can sort out the causality issues.

Errmmm, I haven't spoilt it for anyone have I?

Pah! Ok, technically it was, but I still thought it was rubbish.
Transformers Revenge of the Fallen should be better :)

Ermmm, the smiley was supposed to be an indicator. TBH, there hasn't
ben a good sci-fi since dog knows when. Sunshine was ok, but I thought
I was watching Alien, after that? Cloverfield, but I felt sorry for the
little aliens, every time one appeared someone hit it with a crowbar.
It's a bit sparse at the moment.

I'm sorry, but you've ruined any chance of being taken seriously by even
suggesting that Cloverfield might be a good sci-fi film.

you didn't need the term "sci-fi" in your sentence above.

I'm struggling to think of any /really/ good SF movies in recent
years, though "Storm" was pretty good.

I thought "Sunshine" started well, but it was obvious by the end that
Alex Garland had got bored writing the screenplay and decided to just
make it a sort of "Solaris -v- Event Horizon" thing.

Well, ok, it's pushing the genre a bit, but take that out and there
isn't even a small oasis in the desert.

The only genre that Cloverfield truly belongs to is the
    lets-see-if-we-can-hang-an-entire-movie-off-one-special-effect-without-employing-any-you-know-writers-or-stuff
    genre.

Let's face it, it tells you at the start that all of the main characters are
going to die and, 30 seconds later, you decide that it can't happen soon
    enough.

Sunshine was, IMHO a tired re-hash of a movie that's been made about a
    thousand times.
    This is true.

  18. Indeed. And it gave me motion-sickness.. (the first time that I've
*ever* had it in my life..)

It reminded me a bit of the (very) small bit of "Friends" I've seen -
vacuous American post-teens acting in a decidedly pre-teen fashion
(with added sex). Something that gets irritating after about 30
    seconds.

Add camera motion that makes you feel sick, a 'plot' that might be
suitable for a 5-minute short and general crapness and you have
    Cloverfield.

It's well worth watching all 10 seasons in one mammoth session.
