I'm not fucking welsh. <= 25% irish, allegedly a bit jewish (but we
don't talk about that) but certainly not fucking welsh.

  2. I will point out that the return ferry crossings from Dieppe, on the
Sunday, are at fucking inconvenient hours. Like they leave either at
8am, or 8pm, with nothing in between.

So get up at 6.30am with a thumping hangover, or get home in the small
    hours of Monday morning.

Depends where you're going to. Off the ferry around 9.30pm, trundle over
to Hastings/Rye/Folkstone, etc. Not so bad really.

    On Thu, 9 Nov 2006 19:38:28 +0000,
BY THE END OF THE YEAR? That's terrible - Hotels like the Burj al
Arab in Dubai count their Peak Period as Christmas and New Year and
give a 90 day payment demand. How can a French hotel place such
demands on a group when it's not a peak period and demand payment five
    months before departure.

Are you confident the hotel is solvent? I trust 'we' haven't used
    them before?
    Emailed.

  6. Not so bad, yeah, except the timetable I saw quoted at 11pm arrival
    time.

    Re-reads timetable.

Oh, aye, that's a bit rubbish. 4 hour ferry journey, too.

  10. And how many times have you booked the /whole/ of the Burj Arab?
If I was French and ran a small hotel, had some smart arse Rosbif, that
I'd never heard of, asking to book the whole hotel on a peak weekend,
I'd also be looking for payment in advance. It's a hell of a risk on
    their part.

I book entire hotels and aircraft all the time. However, I do work
for a company with an eye-watering positive credit record.
Normally one would request 10% payment in advance, but if they demand
full payment and we wish to use the hotel then I suppose then that's
what will have to be done.

  12. Sure, for a room or three, but for a small business this wouldn't be
enough to cover their loss if we no-showed against a booking of their
    entire facility.

I think your options are to say "yes" or "no" or organise a trip
    yourself.

They're not asking full payment, but a substantial deposit, so when I
send out the requests, it won't be for the full amount either. Probably
    something like £50.

Thing is, most French hotels are fairly small. On previous runs, we
have, effectively taken over the entire place. On return trips, we
haven't been asked for a deposit, but as this is a first-timer, I can
    quite understand.

Incidentally, Pete Wood (I think Champ still fancies his missus, Jane,
something rotten) is coming, and has said: "Bloody good choice of
hotel. We've stayed there a number of times and the food is excellent."

    So that bodes well.

I know, you stay at the Burj al Arab, and we'll all stay at the small,
independantly owned, French hotel. Job done!
