Might try those. I brought an old pack of standard mushroom spawn home
from my old dad's place when we cleared it out and dropped it in my
greenhouse. It must have got broken and spread about somehow at some
time over the last 7 years, because last autumn shrooms were sprouting
up in the gravel beneath the staging and in gaps in the paving slabs
    just outside.

  3. They are like those little fibre rawplugs. I look forward to the
excitement of growing them. I have the stump of an elderberry in the back
garden which is going to be the main site but I also intend to start a
couple of small logs to trial it.

I have a pack of that as well. So now just the little problem of how to
get 2[1] bales of straw delivered and start production.

[1] 1 for the shrooms and another for the replacement strawbs that I let
    die through neglect last year.

If you ever want strawberry runners I'm inundated with them. Problem is
that they are a very old non-commercial variety brought back as runners
from plants in SWMBO's father's house in Lancashire 15 years ago. The
plants are very robust, but the fruit is small and often misshapen. What
the birds don't get (despite the makeshift cage I put over them) is full
of flavour though. I ought to pull out the old plants and replace them
with the offspring this year. If I let them they would cover the entire
    veg patch.

Reminds me. It's time for the annual "who wants some of our amazingly
fiery horseradish root because it's got to be dug up again befoe it
    undermines the garage"[1]

[1] At the risk of repeating myself, Little Bruvver gave us some root to
get us started but warned: "It will take over your garden." How right he
    was.

  6. Thx but no thx. The issue for me and veg is that with only one gob to
stuff it is so easy for me to overproduce. As much as I do love me
strawbs, all day every day for just 2 weeks is too many. So I have bought
a "1 of every variety" type selection and am aiming for the less is more
over a longer time frame approach. And, of course, I must reacquaint
myself with my local supplier of untreated Jersey Cream.

For outright flavourness to the max there is only the tiny alpine ones.
Yummy to a degree that yummy rarely reaches.

  7. It grows wild along the borders of some of the dykes on the very south
eastern part of Canvey Island and according to those who love it (not me)
it is the finest stuff you will ever find. Though why anyone would want
to even go to CI for any reason other than a cheap blow job is beyond me.

  8. If you want a single variety of seriously tasty spud for all seasons then
    Foremost are hard to beat.

Nominally a first or second early if you harvest them on a cut and come
again basis and plant enough so you can leave a few to mature they also
make excellent mid season and maincrop and are a bit resistant to loads of
    stuff.

Dunno about wireworm though, as far as I know the only cure for that is to
follow the teachings of Saint Jethro Tull and have a proper 4 year
    rotation.

  10. Reminds me of the old joke about the Essex girl who whispered in her
boyfriend's ear that she'd like him to kiss her somewhere wet and
    smelly.

So he drove her to Canvey Island.

OK, I'll wait until March though when it will be sprouting like crazy.

And The Barge Pub. Although not sure if that's technically Canvey
    Island.
