So far so good, sun is shining and the beach is only a couple blocks
away. Although the Pacific is fucking cold, once you're in it it's
fine. Currently scouting for a more permanent place to live and
motorised transport and can't quite decide what I want. Looking at some
classic BMW, as they seem to be reasonably priced and reliable[1].
Living wise it looks like I might have to share to get anything
reasonably nice. Unless someone amongst the great unwashed of ukrm has
a fantastic place in or around La Jolla he/she needs to be taken care
of. ;-) The institute looks nice but is way more corporate then I know
it from Oxford. In addition American buerocracy(sp?) is as a pain in
the ass as anywhere else in the world.

Isn't La Jolla an expensive area of San Diego?

No kidding, I'm currently living in a converted double garage, which
was cunningly advertised as a studio apartment with yard, for about
$1100 a month. But it's only temp. I'm sure I'll find something better
sooner or later. (well, fingers crossed)

That's remarkably close to gaining you a Garage Pixies number, shame
    about the conversion factor.

Not unless you can filter at 150 mph. The traffic is so bad most of the
time, you'll be filtering more often than not.
