I don't know if anyone else had this problem, but when the new 4.08 SETI
Client downloaded yesterday the BOINC_CLI service stopped running the
client. The GUI client was still OK. It started working again when I
uninstalled and reinstalled the CLI (BOINC_CLI -uninstall etc.) I'm still
not sure if that was a temporary aberration or not.

  2. I installed BOINC yesterday and am about to complete my first unit. All
works fine for me on v4.08, but I can't work out how to download a
    greater number of work units??

I changed the amount of disk space allocated, and it now holds around
ten units at any one time.

    latest version is 4.13
I just let it do it's own thang and I got 2 units under progress and
    14 not started.

  5. It's already got a gig of free BOINC space, what did you allocate for
    it?

Heh... mine was set to 100GB, and just got one unit at a time.

You also need to change the setting for how often it connects - it
should download enough units to keep it going until it tries to connect
again, as long as there's enough disk space to hold them.

I figured it would do something like that, but after using some of the
seti-classic add-ons I'm a bit paranoid that I'll run out of work units
when the data server is down, although I suppose that's a good excuse to
    run another BOINC project.

I am awaiting the arrival of my new puter before I put boinc on it.
certainly it, mailwasher and 98 don't cohabit very friendly like.

Tell it you want X days worth of processing on the webs site preferences
bit. It don't necessarily download more work units so much as get
different sizes to fit your desired processing window is how I
    understand how it runs.

There is a clue here if you care to look for it.

This is a part of how the boinc project is designed to operate.
seti@home is just one of the things being done with the basic engine.

I keep getting a message that it can't connect to the scheduler - ever.
I have tried resetting, deleting and adding the project but it never
works. I have climateprediction.net running and it's happy as can be.

OK, _that_ explains why I only get a couple of units I'm on broadband and
I've got connect hourly set. I'm still trying to work out if the
hyperthreading thang is a helping or not, but on the whole I think so.

No it just stopped working, I guess it downloaded some units that wanted the
new version then didn't know what to do with them. I then ran the GUI and
that fetched 4.08, then I reinstalled the Windows Service and it was back to
    normal.

My P4's got 512Mb RAM. This is a bit shit, right?

I'm currently shifting two units every 3 hrs 35.

It's just that I've got some left over from when the old Athlon went
    bang.

I was wondering if any of it'd fit.

If not, I'll sling the new PSU in the old case, and try to resurrect
    it on the cheap.
