    Hello luvvies.

While rummaging through a few old links relating to ear plugs I
    stumbled across <http://www.ultimateear.com/products_motorbike.html> -
I'm fed up with warming up and rolling disposable plugs so I'm
interested in some of a more permanent nature.

Can anyone please tell me what the audio quality is like from the UEP
75's if plugged into an iRiver/MP3 player/etc and has anyone used the
75's long term? I'm concerned that 1) The quality/bass response will
be a bit naff and 2) what is the wear and tear like for daily use? The
    cable doesn't look too robust.

    Thanks for your help.

I've got some UEP 75s somewhere, albeit with acoustic filter inserts
rather than embedded speakers. I've not worn them in aaaaaages, mostly
due to "interesting" fitment - the mould is taken without a helmet on,
so any deformation due to ears being squished isn't taken into account.

I've never been inclined to listen to music while riding. The day I
even think about it, I'll know it's time to get a more stimulating
bike - I'd rather be concentrating on the ride than Shirley Bassey.

How would moulds be taken with a helmet on?

If you get any, I'd be interested in seeing how well they actually block
    noise.

Wouldn't you have to get your own, as they'll be moulded to his ears?

Dave Swindell (formerly of this parish) used to like his. Have a
google. The whole job doesn't seem to have changed much for years -
    same materials, process, colours, etc.

Er. Squirt moulding goo into ear. Put on helmet. Allow goo to set.
    Remove helmet. Remove moulds.

    Is this a trick question?

They block noise exceptionally well. I've worn mine to gigs plenty
of times (as they have proper filters, they don't bugger up the
sound quality too much). They're just crap under a helmet.

Not at all. Does that actually work? I can see goo going all over the
inside of the helmet and so on.

Yes, but yours don't have speakers in. Which is what I wanted to know......

Easy enough to put a thin cover of some kind (cling film?) over the
    ears before donning the helmet.

I can still see the things getting distorted when the helmet goes on, and
    then not actually working.

Do you know of any companies that actually make moulds with the helmet on?
    Just curious.

Off the top of my head, no. For all I know, I'm the only person who's
    ever had that particular problem.

    Catman scribbled:
    Drill holes in helmet.

    Put helmet on.

Inject mould stuff into ears through holes.

    Allow to set.

    Remove helmet. Remove moulds.

Wouldn't you need to swap the first two steps round, to make sure the holes
were in the right place :)

Possibly. I know my E.A.R. plugs were made sans helmet, and fit just fine.
Greenleopard never asked me to take a helmet when I (nearly) went up there.

    Catman scribbled:
Peel blood & bits of ear off moulds.

Throw moulds away due to having no ears anymore.
