Ulysses v. Rebels

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by Batfastard, Mar 10, 2005.

  1. Many Motorcycle Clubs are known as MCCs. The Downs Motorcycle Sporting
Club, for instance, has DMCSC as its abbreviation.

Good, I'm glad old cunts are getting something cheap. lol

Not sure about cheap insurance though. None of the insurance companies I have been with have ever asked me if I was a member on UCI or any other club except the "have you been fined or charged in the previous x amount of years" club. As for First Aid, all well and nice but I already paid. What Rider Training courses give a discount?

Western QBE gives a discount to Ulysses members - so do others I believe.

The club pays back up to (Believe it is $60.00) of an approved course!

    not all that many
but enough to have prepared a No Confidence Motion
which was not allowed to be put
because the meeting and discussion was called to an end
"in order for matters to be discussed in a lessemotional climate"
    or summit like that

Who would have thought? UC members growing old disgracefully, or do
    they mean disrespectfully?

Because long long ago, and very far away, at abouyt the time the motor
cycle was gaining popularity, the pedal cycle was booming and there were
    many Cycle Clubs.

So those who banded together for mutual help and social enjoyment forned
clubs like the pedal cycle riders did. Motor Cycle Clubs.

After all, in the 1910s, there wasn't a lot of difference. Except pedal
    cycles probably had better brakes.

  7. I believe that you get a rebate from UC when you present them with some
proof of having completed said First Aid or Rider Training. I'm not sure
if it applies to ALL courses, or only some specified providers.

<shrug> Well, at time of writing, it was a fair statement.

Whether the club really has the power to do it, I guess, has still to be
    proven.

Under the circumstances facing the club at the time, I can see the logic
in them banning rockers, but, OTOH, if someone was cranky enough, and
had the requisite time and money, to fight the issue. (...and this _is_
the Ulysses Club we are taking about!) I wouldn't bet money on the U.C.
    winning.

In a quietly reasonable mood, I can't find any great problem with the
rules, myself, but, in the overall scheme of things, it worries me that
it could be the first step towards......."No, you can't have a bike
    _that_ pink!"

    regards,
CrazyCam (still awaiting his latest paycheck from U.C.)

Brakes on a pedal cycle? Looxury! We had to jam our feet on the back tyre to
slow down. But only if you had shoes.

  13. Will be interesting to see what is in the next "Riding On". There's been
some interesting discussions in the chat areas on the Ulysses site -
most of it fairly supportive of the decision.

Just as a matter of interest, what would you have done in the same
situation? (it's a legit question - not a slap with the gauntlet, btw)

  15. The issue was the rockers, not the patch - although I suspect that the
patch WILL become an issue (it's been a sleeper for a long time).

And I have no doubt that there will be those who continue to wear the
patch AND rockers. Good luck to them.

ROFL, I saw that one coming. When I first read it I thought as Conehead, but then realised what newsgroup I was reading and gave it some more thought because I knew their had to be a catch. No one posts something THAT obvious in here without reason. I was actually thinking that the 'child' was much older (say 30-40) and eligible to join ;-)
