<wide eyed look> And Italian niche manufacturers sharing parts with
Suzuki is a bad thing ?

    Betty dear

Thats "Gladius", not Gladys. IIRC a Gladius was (since you mentioned
the Romans) the short Roman stabbing sword. A nasty weapon in the
    right hands.

But you are right, it is not good. It looks like they have just tried
too hard to make is "tough" looking.

Yes, because having a headlight that you have a chance of replacing
when it gets a stone chip or you drop the bike is a bad thing.

    Zebee
    - who has often blessed the 70s Italian habit of all using the same
lighting and switchgear. OK, it was rubbish but you can still get it!

At PI when Clem and I were peering through the rain and the gloom into the
Suzuki tent I read the name on the side and I read it right, but to me it
will always be "Gladys".... icky poo....

The the question becomes, do you want stuff that you can easily buy,
    or stuff that doesn't fail.

Personally I'd prefer both of the above...

Most all 1970's BMW parts are still available and at reasonable prices too.

A few years ago I was able to get a key for the Baby Beemer, so 50s
    stuff was....

The working bit of the headlight on the hack Guzzi and the Old Girl is
your standard 7" Hella insert. NOt has muck common as it was now cars
go for silly lights too, but still easy to get.

The headlight buckets are harder, but I have spares...

    Zebee
    - who one day will have to go through the Guzzibits and work out
which ones are for the Guzzi she no longer (sob!) owns...

Yep; from the moment she saw it Betty christened it "Gladys"; and a more
    perfect name I can't imagine!

  11. Ducati Multistrada power, Ducati 1098R pricetag, delivery sometime in
mid-2009 if you order now and the company doesn't go out of business -
again - in the meantime. Somehow, it doesn't strike me as likely that
someone who'd pony up what Bimota are asking for what they are offering
would weigh up how easily a cheap replacement headlight could be had on
Ebay for when they carry out their own repairs after they trowel it.

  12. OEM'ing a whole engine to power a mass-produced (albeint for small
values of mass) price-competitive performance naked is one thing...
reaching into a supplier's parts bin for a headlight to light the way
for a handbuilt, air-cooled, two-valved rarity for which you go on to
charge more than for an MV Agusta F4 1000 and a Ducati 1098 put together
    is something else.

  13. That's coz no-one would buy them back then and they are still sitting
in boxes in the warehouse :p

Agreed. But at that price I'd have expected a frame/fork design more
specific to the typeof bike. That makes it look a bit generic.

More to the point, they fuckers didn't break down. ...Apart from
breaking a 20 cent return srping in a /5 gearbox ... and numerous
hours of fun and games and interference fit bearings...
