Do you mean you went to (or phoned) the pub in Jingellic and asked
    about accommodation?

My regular cree LED torch is only 130 Lumens on high and that's with a
Lithuium battery, with a AA cell it's only about 60 or 70.

And I didn't even have that one with me (because I forgot it), I had a
cheap $10 multi LED thing from the local garage.

Most of the torches shining upon you were actually fairly dim (good
thing too or we might have been able to see you :)

    Moike,
although I'm no-doubt SUBSTANTIALLY heavier than this VTR250's rider, my
experience from riding both types of bikes is that the R100RS is about 60kph
faster on the flat and probably quicker in all but the tightest, downhill
    tight-stuff.
They're sweet bikes but they ain't RGVs!

  8. You got to be joking
Johno wouldn't even offer a VB, let alone have one in his fridge

It's Johno's VB... it's got his name on it!

Every so often we drag it out and offer it to him.

If I play my cards right, I might have a new bike before then too.

I just came back from riding a GS650F (the single pot one, not the 800
pretending to be a 650) 4200km around the southeast island of
Australia (I've got several thousands photos to sort through). They
maintain the roads *fantastically* over there, but right now they're
ripping them all up and replacing them as part of their reponse to the
    financial bubble.

But so many bloody campervans and motorhome behemoths and bloody
    Australian tourists.

And Australian red dust covering some of the glaciers.

This was 2 weeks after I went for a 1500km detour on my way down to
Melbourne and back. 7700km in 5 weeks. My butt hurts.

Oh well, there goes your "smallest capacity" trophy!
Didn't I give you a dead sheep at last year's Unaugural?

Heh. It helps a little, but it I think there are fundamental limits
    to butt physics.

Also, I couldn't take the sheepskin to NZ. Their sheep might get jealous.

[T]he best that an optimist gets is "working as expected",
which is the _worst_ that the pessimist gets.
[...] [T]he pessimistic attitude is the more reasonable, Q.E.D.

When it rains, the optimist gets wet, the pessimist opens his
umbrella. That poor pessimist has to carry that umbrella every time he
steps outdoors, 365 days a year.

Is risk aversion the same as pessimism then? If so, I fear for the
    future state of the State...
Well I fear for it anyway, really, but then I'm a pessimist, I
    suppose.

I'd consider myself to be a pessimist of the "Hanrahan" school:

Well bugger me! My mother used to quote O'Brien endlessly when I was
    looking at grass-hopper knees.
