    I seem to remember that in around 1988 the UK was briefly assigned .gb as
    its TLD as we transitioned from .uucp addresses, presumaby because some
    computer science PhD from Indiana or somewhere had been on holiday to
    Europe once and remembered seeing GB on the backs of cars.
