Utterly soaked

    ....are my jeans and socks. That's *despite* wearing my winter
    waterproof trousers. In fact water started that slow inevitable
    trickle to places water shouldn't trickle before I'd even left the
    business park where I work. I could feel trickles running down my legs
    and my socks squelched as I walked into the house when I got home.

    Methinks a purchase is in order.

    My utterly cool Spyke jacket remained completely dry throughout almost
    an hour of riding. It rocks.

    My new AGV lid's anti-mist visor worked brilliantly, though I don't
    know how long it'll last.

    Apart from the discomfort, it was a pleasant bimble exploring back
    roads home. The Guzzi felt nice and it really is a pleasant bike to
    bimble about on. Stage one of running it back in is now complete at
    just over five hundred miles. Happy days.

    Got the MT-03 today, had to take it for a run, managaed 20 odd miles &
    even my arse crease was wet. Not sure if that wasn't sweat brought on
    by new very slippy tyres, or rain.

    Nice ride though, nice & peppy, great commuter. I reckon it could do
    50-55mpg too.

    Good fun bike.

    Modern kit is excellent. I spent 1968 to 1971 riding up and down the A5 2
    hours at a time and no amount of ex army stuff from Wakefields could keep me
    dry/warm. Those WWII despatch riders were double heroes. When I started paid
    work I afforded a Lewis Leathers nylon suit - it was waterproof for several
    months as long as you didn't count the seams or zips.

    Now I wear a Gortex lined jacket (£125 in a sale) I bought 5 years ago and a
    pair of trousers from M&P (£50 with lining) - both items sold as waterproof;
    and they are. I don't ride in the rain for longer than an hour or so at a
    time unless I get caught out. e.g. France in 1999 when we sat on a Yam 900
    for 3 miserable days of wet.

    And tyres! Modern tyres find grip in the wet. Tonight I rode home in heavy
    rain at my normal speeds without a hint of concern for grip - mind you I am
    talking of no more than 70mph on a KLE 500. Avon Gripsters are excellent
    compared with the TT100s I bought in the 1970s. Of course they do wear out
    fairly quickly.

    Modern kit rocks ( as I believe you younger chaps say)

    Before it started raining here I decided to go for a bit of a blast as
    the bike hadn't been out much recently. Started to rain shortly after
    leaving, but pressed on regardless. Had quite good fun for a while,
    but was becoming very greasy, so decided to bimble back home. On exit
    to very slow corner managed to massively high-side and slide to an
    ungraceful stop down the tarmac. ****. Holed the engine casing and
    dropped the full contents of oil all over the road.

    On the bright side I did manage to bin it outside pretty much the only
    house for miles, and the nice gentleman that lives there let me put
    the bike in his garage until I get it recovered...

    Ah. Something to look out for. The current ones are Spadas and really
    only stayed moderately waterproof for a year or so.

    Tthe Guzzi does well in the wet. I don't know if it's just the light
    steering that gives me confidence, or the tyres (Pirelly Scorpion
    MT90) or the fact that it's a quarter-tonne pushing a pair of quite
    skinny tyres through the water, or what.
    Yeah, proper wicked.

    I was going to book some male strippers for that party in mid July but you
    just qualified for the role. I assume you grab these Alpinestar's by the
    crotch and with a flourish rip them off in one smooth movement, revealing
    what lies below.

    Heh. Wish I'd stopped by here before I went shopping for one then...

    I must say it's been a spectacularly shite bike to own. The ABS is
    fucking schizophrenic and kicks in just when you don't want it. The
    clutch plates needed replacing after 8000 miles (of mostly motorway
    riding). The battery lasts about 5 days before it won't give enough
    puff to fire up. It will be disposed of later this year, and I won't
    be sad to see the back of it.

    You got a very bad one. My ex has just traded in her 18 month old and
    20K mile 650 Bandit against a Daytona 600. Her Bandit withstood
    numerous crashes and serious numpty abuse/neglect without once
    breaking down or leaving her stranded anywhere. My own 75K mile Bandit
    600 stood up to courier abuse for years before I took it on as a cheap
    hack. That too took no end of abuse and is still getting it in someone
    else's hands.
