Uvex seem to have pretty much abandoned the UK market, as I discovered
when trying to get visors for my Species (got them from NZ in the end).
I'd change brands if I were you.

Me too but, although the Wing RS is a superb lid, the build quality
isn't a patch on Arai, so it's an RX7 for me shortly ...
Strangely (or maybe not) my current one (about 12 months IIRC) is
holding up much better than my last one.

Cheek pads wore out[1] and the chin vent cover broke off. I do do
'rather a lot' of miles, though.

I did. It's bloody cold at 0550 in January on the M25.

Oddly enough I've grown a beard this year for the first time in ages -

The new one (with yet another design) is really much better.

To be fair though I paid £170 for my Uvex, with 2 visors (clear double
glazed, and dark) ... at the time, budget lids were *crap*, as there
weren't the sort of quality cheaper lids like Nitro around (I recall
trying an HJC, or whatever they're called, and it was awful at high
speeds), and Arai wanted £230 for their cheapest decent lid, so again,
you get what you pay for.

My Uvex has been a great lid (especially for the money), but it's
outmoded now, and a bit tatty, and it hasn't done half the miles my
earlier Arai Maverick has, which is still performing exactly the same as
the day it left the factory, plus a few scratches.

me, the double glazing.. I will continue to try and source them as I
need them, and get Beav to paint them sensible colours

you're very wrong. the only good thing about uvex lids is the double
glazed visors. they're far superior to pinlock its a real shame they
don't make them for other helmets.

apparently they were originally made for winter olympic sports.

Yep - they do shedloads of winter sports lids, specific to each winter
sport (or did the last time I looked a few years back) - there's a
"downhill" lid, a slalom one, and even a ski jumping lid, which had this
weird fin thing on it, presumably to keep you a bit more stable when
lobbing yourself off a sodding great tower.

Yes, I can imagine that, for people who ride all year round, the double
glazed visor must be a godsend; I was out on my old R1 once when it
started to snow, and even sitting at traffic lights, breathing hard, it
didn't fog one iota.

And yes, the stability at speed is superb; the difference above 130
between my old Arai and the Uvex was huge.

But Uvex never seemed that fussed about the UK market, so they're not
worth bothering with these days, IMHO.

It's not so much the experts that worry me, it's the beginners; I mean I

favourite is "kangaroo loose in the top paddock"...
I've done Arthur's Pass in New Zealand in the pissing rain on a
CBR1000 (F ?) - but nothing would persuade me to launch myself down
anything that steep with two planks strapped to me plates...

ding. OTOH I managed to mist up a Lazer Revolution with the mask. I have
a misting problem.

all the things that made it good was hugely let down by the fact the
quality lets it down.

The only thing I had really had wrong with it were the fact it went so
tatty so quickly. my current Shoei is the same age I gave up on the
uvex and it still looks (well if it was clean) in decent nick.

twas only tinted visor that de laminated, seemed to be made up of lots
of layers making it a darker tint.

I didn't get to do that one on my recent trip. I went from Bormio into
Livigno after doing the Stelvio.
