Basement storage, fucks everything ferrous right up.
That place in Leeds that deals in Norton rotaries is the same. From time to
time the river floods the basements.

The shop counter looks just as it did when I used to queue four deep at
it on a Saturday morning 40 years ago.

Six of the blokes you queued up with are still in there waiting!

I go past the place every day, old Len would weep, if he was still
alive, to see how it is now. Most of the decent stuff will just rust
    away.

    Heh.

I just sent 3 phones off to one of those phone recycling places.

Less money than flogging them through EBay or suchlike but a **** load less
    hassle.

I still can't understand why anyone has any phones that are worthwhile
sending off. I've got quite a few old handsets myself, but not a
single one of them is worth even a fiver to any of the commercial
    outfits.

And here's me looking for a 'new' phone (but not an 'old' one).

Yep, but it was one of the best back then. I was a regular there back in
the 70s although Hanks on Slade Road was my "local".

most are not worth re-selling for re-use as phones but according to
http://www.mobilemuster.com.au/quick_facts 90% of the content is
recyclable, including significant quantities, when aggregated, of precious
    metals.

    I'm mildly surprised.

  16. Some years ago, there was some serious flooding in a certain London
dealership's street. And the dealer's cellar copped it.

Said dealer took the opportunity to offload all the useless parts and
accessories he'd had sitting, unsold, on his shelves for decades by
simply throwing them down the stairs....

    Allegedly.

Out of the three phones I'm sending off, one is worth £115, the other £30 and
    the last £15.

I do have two more but like you have found, they're worth sod all so I might
as well keep them just in case I lose my main phone.

I change phones regularily which doesn't help.

If they're worth that much then there's clearly nothing wrong with
    them, particukarky the first one.
No, I didn't find that. I simply inferred it. It's abvious to me that
this is just cashing in on some folks' desire to get the latest and
greatest when their existing phones are perfectly good.
Why? I mean, once every couple of years, by which time I accept that
technology has moved on, I can understand. But if you have that many
around you're clearly doing it much more often than that. The ukp115
one in particular must be this year's model. Did you make such a poor
buying decision that it didn't do what you expected, or what?

The £115 one is a Blackberry Curve 8900. Bought it last year (June IIRC)
outright from EBay as a stop gap until the iPhone 3GS came down in price.

I find that smart phones are more toys (in that you can play with them) /
gadgets and do a heck of a lot as well as being a simple phone.

The BB was rather crap in that respect, the iPhone a hell of a lot better.

Did you ever have a PDA? If so did you ever just install interesting stuff on
it to play with? And after a while the interesting, new software was written
for the latest generation of PDAs with more memory and CPUs, so a better one
would keep on being "a fun thing to play with"? So you upgraded it?

Smart phones are simply a PDA with a phone and suffer from the same upgrade-
    itis.

Maybe its just geeks or gadget fans that do this :)
