Didn't beat Doohan's most wins in a season record.

Beat it? He didn't even equal it, did he?

    (quick check)
Melandri won two races this year, Capirossi won another two, and Hayden
and Barros won one each, leaving Rossi one win short of Doohan's 12 in a
season... despite this year's championship having 17 rounds, as opposed
to 15 when Doohan set the record.

So the record should be only lost 3 races in a season

No the only reasonable way would be a percentage: better than 12/15
races won ie >80% win rate. 11/17 is only 65% or a long way short

Wins is nice but all points scored is a better comparison..
    (just ask Pitty)

as it happens I posted these a few weeks ago...

    1994. Doohan 14 races 317 points 90.6%
    1997. Doohan 15 races 340 points 90.7%
    2002. Rossi 16 races 355 points 88.8%
    2003. Rossi 16 races 357 points 89.3%
    2005. Rossi 17 races 367 points 86.4%

Fair enough, but there's a fairly strong correlation between wins and
    points :)

Besides, wasn't the subject dominance rather than consistency ?
Percentage of max available points indicates consistency (if he didn't
win he came 2nd etc), Pitt was very consistent, but he wasn't dominant
    in the 600s

He was pretty driven and a hard competitor, but I wouldn't have said
    disagreeable...........

    Doohan not Disagreeable?

Only if you agreed with him he wasn't.
